Default TypeR swap ?'s

ok now i know the B18C5 didnt get into production until 97 after OBD2, now if i have a 94 LS with OBD1 and i swap in a 97 B18C5 would i have to have a OBD2 ecu or could i use the ecu from say a 94-95 GSR or something similar? i dont like the idea of being on an OBD2 system and want to avoid that problem

You can use a obd-1 chipped p28 and that will work fine. The GSR ecu won't work since it looks for the secondaries that the Type-R doesn't have.

the gsr ecu will technically work without a CEL but the vtec engages way too early on the R cams (4400)

best bet is a chipped OBDI to ITR specs.
