Re: top 10 ways to lighten your car (ekhatchhybrid)
Here are a few....
Take out as much of the interior as possible
Lighter wheels
Carbon Fiber Hood
Take out Cruise control
Aftermarket header
Remove Sound deadening on floor
Take out Front and Rear bumper reinforcments ( i DO NOT think its a good idea, but most of the guys i know take them out)
Those will save weight, they all worked on my Ek Si...which is a pig.
I did this and ALOT more to my h/b....but its weekend and race only.

good pointers
Also, I'd recommend getting an aftermarket steering wheel and getting a lighter seat, with a 4 point seat harness (and remove stock seat belts).
Alot of the above mentioned will do it too.

Re: top 10 ways to lighten your car (poison)
im not sure how much the sparco big reclinable seats save you on weight but i know some seats that do. go hire a welder to weld you a bucket seat out of thin aluminum, thats a light seat! my friend has one in his corvette drag car. or i think summit racing sells abs seats for pretty cheap(i should get paid for that). thats http://www.summitracing.com i havn't been there in a while.

Re: top 10 ways to lighten your car (poison)
take all the air out of your tires, thats like 30lbs a corner
seriously though, gradually lower the air pressure in your tires each run until you find a pressure your happy with, use smaller lighter wheels, put 2 dounts on the back if you got them, take out your passenger seat if you want to go crazy. it's also amazing how many people run their cars with a full tank of gas.
i'm a pretty firm believer in running your car in the same trim that you drive it in everyday (with the exception of air pressure) but if you really want to get into 13's that should help you. posts some time slips to show what results you got.

----------
remove the A/C compressor, condensor and cooler
this makes the BIGGEST difference out over everything listed above.
its your choice, but it weighs a bundle eg 40 - 60 lbs

Just curious...What does your timeslip look like now ? Could you post the break down ?
Shaving weight always helps but maybe theres another area that could be improved.

Re: top 10 ways to lighten your car (ekhatchhybrid)
Not in order:
1. Take out bumper supports
2. remove sound deading material
3. remove A/C and heater vents, heater core.
4. remove power steering
5. remove a/c lines, etc inside engine bay
6. smaller lighter battery(92+ honda/civic already have a pretty light battery compared to EF's)
7. of course, remove spare tires, jack , etc.
8. remove windshield wiper reservoir
9. remove rear seats.
10. cut out certain parts of the body underneath the bumpers.
remove unnecesarry bolts(there are some big ones like the tow hook bracket bolts, etc.

Re: top 10 ways to lighten your car (exospeedAMcrx)
"ekhatchhybrid" are you running slicks???? My friend has his '96 hatch with a USDM B18C1, skunk manifold, 2000 Si tranny, ACT Maxx Xtreme clutch, clutchmaster flywheel, intake, HX wheels with MT 20x14x6 slicks, and running his DC header open... He just pulled out the seats and some other little **** but on average it runs a 13.5... The other day when he ran it he managed to pull a 13.29@100... Traction must have been perfect but that's hella good for being a internally stock all motor GSR EK.

exospeedAMcrx, I agree **** power steering and **** A/C.... We build these bad *** clean looking motors and you can't even see them once you put them in and it makes you weigh more by like 5lbs. j/k may a little more than that. I hate that ****, it just clutters up your engine bay.. The other thing i don't like in there is the ABS ****... Oh well if you got it just rip it out.
