is there a way to figure out the year on jdm motors?
ok, some say to look for the head and the first numbers(like encircled) will indicate the year- is this an accurate way of identifying the year? i mean, isnt it possible that the head was made in 97 but it's for a 99-00 motor?
i also found this website http://www.allmotorhonda.com/techpag...anny_specs.htm
from the table, the spec r (96-97) has 4.4 final drive. 4.7(98+ spec r) final drive should have higher rpms when crusing on the highway, right? well my car's rpm is 3900 at 70 mph... does 4.4 or 4.7 final drive do that? i really want to know.

*Disclaimer: this pic isnt mine, I took it from Katman's website*
This will tell you the year of the head at least
If you are cruising at ~3900 in 5th gear at 70 mph, you have the 4.4 FD
