car is a 96 DX hatch. motor is a 95 LS which the shop says they converted to obd2. throwing 2 codes: code 54 and code 7. for those of you who dont know what that is 54 is the crankspeed fluctuation sensor and 7 is my throttle position sensor. car idles really weird. it bounces from 1000rpm to 1500rpm, or will just idle pretty low. it bogs out sometimes when im just driving. it feels like i revved to high and it hit the fuel cut off when it bogs, but im at 2-4k rpm. and when it bogs it feels REALLY sluggish afterwards, like it stays in shitty mode or something. the motor pulls friggin strong most of the time but still has these probs sometimes. what do i do? am i hurting the motor or the car? help me please!!!!!

To check your TPS sensor - turn you car to the "on" position (no engine started), check to see if your sensor has .5v with throttle plate completly closed, then move the throttle to wide open, you should have 4.5v and see a gradual increase as you start to move the throttle rotor. Wires to probe are red/black (+) and green/blue (-). Also check the ECU voltage with the yellow/blue (+) and green/blue (-) with the ingition in the "on" position - should be about 5 volts. If this is out of spec, you will need to move your TPS sensor a little to calibrate it. HTH for TPS, I don't enough experience w/ crankspeed sensor - sorry.

but is the TPS the reason that my car is doing that? im afraid i have bent valves cause the exhaust sounds poppy at idle.

Yeah, cause the ECU doesnt know where the TB is at.

Are you running open header, cause that will cause that to do it

well i had an exhaust leak in my manifold for like 3-4 days but i fixed it.code 7 is fixed, but the car still idles all wildly. 1000 to 1500 over and over. my IAC isnt throwing any codes though. WTF?!?!?

a bad/miscalibrated TPS can cause an idle problem like that

just because its not throwing the code dosent mean its working properly.

without a tps sensor my idle did the same thing. from 1000 to 1500 over and over

check for vacume leaks

Spray carb cleaner on the vacuum lines ( one at a time) and of the idle changes, that is where it is leaking from.

ok update on the car. threw on another IAC this morning. purred like a kitten for like 30 minutes, then when i went on my lunch break it started jumping the idle again. ARGH!! well when i got off of work i broke out the trusty paperclip and looked what my codes were. still 54 and a new one!!! code 1!! where the hell did that come from?!?!??!
