Default Swap into 90 Hatchback

Hey guys. Situation: I bought my first car over the summer for $200. (It was all I had to buy a car really.) And I'm not entirely disappointed with what I got, but it does need an engine and tranny. I've searched a lot for a decent swap that wouldn't cost a lot (less than 1k) but all I've came up with is SOHC replacements with trannies for about $700 not including shipping. I want at least 125 hp stock and I can't find anything cheap enough. I currently have a D15B2 (dual point fuel injection) with a 4spd tranny in my car. It's burning serious oil and the tranny doesn't have 2nd gear and it sometimes goes into neutral while in other gears. Question: Should I rebuild the engine and buy a new tranny? Or should I buy both at the same time? If I should buy both new, what combination should I buy that would be affordable for me? HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Thanks,
Matt

This question has been covered many times. You just need to familiarize yourself with the different options available. and pretty much any of the sohc vtec engines will get you the 125 hp your looking for(at least at the flywheel) And if your looking to cheap out and get the cheapest one. You may look into getting a 91 civic si d16a6 i think. It doesn't have vtec, but it is a good engine. Then you can use you r linkage and axels and stuff. Just have to wore it up for multi-point.

How do I wire the VTEC up? It's not that I'm looking to cheap out. I'm a student and I just don't have the money to do something that would qualify as extraordinary. (something that would woop *** up and down the street )
