Swap Done, No Tach though?
94 EX Coupe. 99 GSR Motor. Currently running P28 unchipped until the P72 comes in. With the P72 will the tach work or is there something wrong causing my tach not to work. Speedo, fuel, temp and all others work...Just not the tach. Everything is plugged in, no wires cut or tapped. Any ideas anyone??

It's the blue wire near your distributor. Buy a piece of wire (stereo wiring) and tap it into the blue wire and connect it to your RPM speedometer. Test out each one (I should be blue also) and when you touch the right one, while revving ur engine.. the RPM will work.

There is also a service wire near the drivers side brake master cyl...should be a green wire....tap that and you should get the tach signal without having to tap the wires near the distributor

There should be no reason that the tach would quit working after a swap as long as nothing got wired wrong or unhooked. Check the wiring between the tach and the ECU then from the ECU to the distributor. It helps to have a Helm's wiring manual to trace wires at a time like this.... Hint Hint.....

Re: Swap Done, No Tach though? (VTECVillain)
Had the EXACT same problem. Did you use the Obd1 engine harness? But yeah, the plug at the distributor will not work, so I just had to run an extra wire from the distributor all the way over to the plug on the drivers side shock mount. Been working great ever since. Although, I do admit that it was quite awesome taking the car out for the first time with an open header, no tach and trying to creep up the RPMS to find out where vtec was... haha everyone should try it!
