Default the story of the 94cx hatch, the p28 and the 2001 gsr motor....come, and live the adventrure!

Good Morning my fellow HT citizens…..

I am currently working on my new project “3LMoco” since “3lRedSkoolingbus” was sold and then brutally murdered at the hands of an uninsured clown.

The Car: 94 CX
The Motor: 2001 GSR
Motor Wire harness: 2001 GSR
Sub Harness (from passenger shock tower to ecu): 94 CX
ECU: OBD-I P28 Mugen Spec

So starting things off all the plugs at the shock towers plugged right in, but since mine does not come with vtec prewired in ……
I know for a fact that I have to physically wire in the “Vtec Pressure switch” which requires two wires one, to pin_ and one to ground. Also I know I have to wire in the “vtec Solenoid” to pin _
Im still debating on if I should just buy any subharness w/vtec already wired in cuz if I have to wire in some more junk I might as well just save me the money.

What I don’t know is what do I do about my secondary butterflies? Do those come on just with vacuum pressure or do I or can I even wire it in to a P28 ecu? And what and where do I do it?
Or do I need to buy a OBD-IP72 to active the secondaires?

And please don’t say “just get a SKUNK2 Manifold and get it over with y0!” cuz I want to keep my gsr mani.

Thanks, And I theres anything else I need to wire in please let me know…

And heres the pic that lured you in…..RSB…RIP she will be missed L

I just used a vacuum line for my secondaries! Been doing it for about 8 months with no probs. Works great!

the vacuum line 'trick' will work on the h22.. but the b18c1 WILL NOT.. i know this because 3 yrs ago i did alot of research on the same setup. b18c1 running off skunk2 ecu (i ran a fastest of 14.5 in a 92 si hatch w/ full interior and no axleback). this setup ran real rich and i believe the reason my cat. conv. is toasted. you do have an option if you refuse to get a obd1 p72 or a skunk manifold, theres people that have run the secondaries off of a MSD rpm switch, if you go this route i strongly suggest getting a vafc and some time on the dyno to tune. theres a great thread about this somewhere in the archives. i considered this, but it would have been more expensive then getting a p72. sell the mugen p28 or trade someone for a p72. someone with a skunk2 manifold and beefy cams could def. use that program! in short find somone on here to trade.. dont get the prewired sub harness just run the extra wires for vtec, not that hard.

just remove the secondaries all together :D single stage manifold and while in that process just port it alittle

i think the rpm switch would probably just cost you more money and time. i had a friend that did a minime on a crx and it took alot of time on the dyno and plus he bought the afc too.

this is becuz of the ecu and not the buttlerflies, open up the manifold and take them out and use shorter 12mm bolts to connect the two pieces back together.

he stated that he wants to keep the gsr manifold. the only reason i can think of him wanting to keep it, is to keep the better street-driven torque band, which a funtioning gsr manifold will provide..
the ecu controls the butterflies to open the manifold.. taking them out or not hooking them up will result in about the same outcome, peak power but not a great powerband.
just cause ERICKS RACING does it on a DRAG car doesnt mean every street driven gsr needs to remove the butterflies. dont do it.. its NOT worth it.. ive made this common mistake in my long quest to do what you wanna do. it resulted in a car that felt EXACTLY the same as not having my secondaries hooked up. more work= same power
