1985 civic

im planning to swap a b series motor into my 85 civic. i called up my local shop here in norcal to get quotes n stuff. they said i cant use anything other than the cable tranny that comes with the 1st gen b16. he suggested that i go with that instead of going with the b18c1. i really want b18 motor but would the hydro tranny still work? i dont understand why the hydro tranny wouldnt work. help please?

it wont work because the clutch is operated hydraullicly and your car is set up on a cable based system.

you can still use a b18c1 you just have to sell your hydro transmission (6-700$) and buy a first gen b16 transmission (a couple hundred)

there isnt a kit that is released to the public yet for hydro to cable conversions.

gears are shorter in the b16
it would probably help the performance.

with the saved money from selling the transmission get a b16 tranny with LSD.

I just recently bought an 85 CRX Si with a B16A in it. That was the only mod the guy did to the car, EVERYTHING else was stock. Just get the 1st gen B16a with the cable tranny, you won't regret it. IMO, a cable transmission is MUCH more reliable than a hydro-type. With a cable all you have to worry about is adjusting your clutch from time to time. With a hydraulic, you have master cylinders going, slave cylinders going. It's really just more that can go wrong with the car.
