Re: SiR 1..into a 5th gen civic (KAMiN)
i dont know about you guys but im a college student and i am very cheap. but then again its how you make your car go fast and not how much you spend. if i was a spoiled rich kid (assuming hondatawasu is) then maybe my car be fast. anybody can build a car to become fast if they have money, but the trick is building it with less cash possible.

Re: SiR 1..into a 5th gen civic (hatch_react)
once again assumptions have been made. let me think to when i got my first motor. hmmm...........seems to me it was in early february of 00 when i was smack dab in the middle of the state university (hence WSU). who did my swap???? me!!! where???? in a borrowed next door neighbors carport. who paid for the swap???? me, out of my hard earned money that i had saved b4 i went off to school. yes dad did pay for school but i paid for my swap. including all my mods, including my other 2 00 B16s i have, including every part on my car and including the car. u get my point. the other guy is right though by the time u add all that to buy the cheap motor u could have the correct motor in ur car and running. besides that u would have to swap distributors, injectors, trannies, fuel rail. come on, u need to spend some money and quit being cheap, its as simple as that.

Forgot the Cable to hydro conversion roughly $350.00. So now you're at about $2350.00. Another $200.00 or less and you got a 2nd gen B16.

Re: SiR 1..into a 5th gen civic (KAMiN)
well hondaatwsu its nice to know that you pay for all that. but like wise im in the same whole, i pay for my college alone and personal interest alone, no mom and no dad for that. but anyways im having second thoughts about getting that 1st generation motor now that most of you guys have respond back with your opinions. i know i can install it my self which will cost me less than taking it to shop but its just all the minor things like the hydro cable conversion kit and mounts and axles that might build up to the same price as a hydro b16a. thanks alot guys for your opinons.

Let's do some math:
1st gen swap (engine, tranny, ECU): $1,100-$1,200
HASport mounts w/cable to hydro converter: $600
Axles: $250 (you won't have cores)
Shift linkage: $100-$150
ECU: $300 for re-chipped P28 or P30
Rear mount bracket: $70
$2570 total w/o labor
I've seen complete B16A swaps from Del Sol VTEC cars go for $2,400! That included everything!
What is so cheap about the 1st-gen swaps? Why put a motor that is for the Pre-OBD cars into an OBDI car? I just don't get it.
Oh, and BTW: there is another post EXACTLY like this right below this one! Do you guys not even read the topics before you post?
Lastly, an SiR could still be an OBDI grey plug motor - there are plenty of EG SiRs in Japan. SiRII just had more options, so you should refer to them as 1st-gen and 2nd-gen rather than SiR and SiRII.

One more thing:
Why take the chance on the first-gen tranny? The only one that you know for SURE that has good gearing is the J1. The other trannies could be from USDM LS/RS and have ultra-shitty gearing and a 4.26 FD, and the Y1 JDM has pretty crappy gearing and a 4.26 FD as well.
Also, the cars I've driven with the cable-hydro converter feel strange. The pedal feel is strange, and the engagement feels more vague too.
Sorry, but that's my opinion, so if you don't like it, then oh well.

Re: SiR 1..into a 5th gen civic (JV)
thanks for the reply i think im sticking with 2nd generation b16 instead. i rather have a reliable motor than one with all conversion parts. thanks.

One more thing for those who are still debating:
I forgot to add the cost of a correct distibutor since you can't use the 2st-gen B16A one.
How much would the right one be?
Getting a used one might be cheap, but you never can rely on a used distributor - why is it off in the first place?
A used one might run $150.00 or MORE - usually MORE.

Re: SiR 1..into a 5th gen civic (Doctor CorteZ)
The actual block castings should be the same. Just use the actual brackets and mounts from your current motor and it should bolt in the same.
Like on the timing belt side of the motor - use the cast metal piece that actually bolts to the block and the correct mount that bolts to the chassis and you should be fine
