Default Simple swap question.... 98 dx motor into 92 DX

sorry if this has been covered already, my buddy needs to know if this engine will work in his car. He needs to say yes or no to the Engine place with this motor.

the car is a 92 civic dx with a dead motor.
my buddy found a 98 civic dx motor to replace it with.

I know the 92 civic motor is obd1 and the 98 civic motor is obd2.

If we use the engine harness and ECU from the stock motor on the 98 motor will it still run obd1? or do we need to change other things like the intake manifold?

thanks for your help

yes use ecu and stock harness might be easier to swap the 92 intake manifold onto the 98 civic motor since the iacv sensors are different. Also the design on the 92 intake manifold is better. If you want it to be strictly plug and play swap the intake manifold from the 92 onto the 98 and use the 92 distributor. Everything will be plug and play if you do this. And YES you will remain obd1 since ur ecu is obd1

It's a very easy swap if you do it that way by using all the OBD1 parts and manifold. Just reuse the driver's side mount and mount bracket from the 92 motor and it'll bolt right in. The 96+ Y7 motors can be found cheap with low miles and are a good replacement for an old tired D motor.
I bought a Y7 from an 00 LX and dropped it into my 89 DX beater hatch. I also just bought a 90 4wd Civic wagon and another Y7 for it which should be done in a few days.

Both you guys thanks!!

Does the 92 distributor have different plugs? is that why it needs to be swapped?

Thanks again for the info!

Yes the plugs are different. You can use an OBD2 Y7 distributor and simply repin the OBD1 plugs onto it as well.
