Default S2k F20c Powerred RWD EG Civic

I know it's ugly but the swap is flat out amazing I think. It looks like it works very well and the potential is great in a purpose built race car.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2196304

I see this as inspiration to attempt something similar, but like I said INTO A REAL RACE CAR, NOT LOADED DOWN WITH SYSTEM. The way I see it, I could get an EG hatch, strip it down to the bare essentials weighing ~1900 lbs. With this motor in it, with even slight mods and being RWD it'd fly. Not to mention what a small turbo setup would do. What are you guy's thoughts??

Obviously, I'd need the whole rear assembly off of the s2k and the front crossmember to mod the engine to fit in the fwd engine compartment. The firewall would have to be heavily carved into to allow for the RWD tranny and the whole center "hump" of the car raised to allow room for the drive shaft and exhaust. Also a custom lenght driveshaft...

you got the ugly part right.... ugh. haha, but I don't know if the juice would be worth the squeeze. Really up to you in the long run, but, you could definitely run faster for the same money if that's what you're asking... if you're just trying to do something more outside the box then go for it, you'll be one of few, and could be an impressive write up to add to the archives if done correctly.

The only thing I'd hate to happen is build the car and not be able to get it to handle right. I'm not sure how extensive the tuning of the suspension would have to be to get the rear end of the car to act like it should without having to do crazy custom spring rates and such. If was to build this thing, I'd want to throw it around some turns, not just a straight line...

yep, "Tag Racecraft" civic if you want to google it.

This car is absolutely hairy going down the track and has even crashed at an event.

That Tag Civic shouldn't even count, it's a freakin tube chassis... They could've put any motor in there, it's barely a civic.

you have a good point.

my main concern would be the steering rack on an "OEM" unibody.

Yeah, that was one of the first concerns I had. What I'd think to do is just mount the motor/tranny high enough where it'd fit over the stock steering rack. Obviously you'd have to cut into the firewall/center hump of the car but that's to be expected anyway.

That's probably not going to happen. the engine owuld be very high? you'd probably have to figure out a whole other way of steering the car.

...and would also have a to re-enforce the hell out of the area where you cut for the tunnel.. i know on an ef that the unibody gets freakisly flimsy when you dont have the rear crossmember attached.

BTW: I'd really like to see someone pull this off, what an interesting project.

You may be right about the motor being to high. There might be a way to use the s2k steering. Without a doubt there would be lots of chassis/frame reinforcing on this project. I'm still rolling it around in my head... I know I've got the crew to pull it off, I just want to make sure it's functional and not done just so I can say I did it.
