Default retarded timing for b20/vtec.

how much will I have to retard the timing for a b20/vtec running 12:1 compression pistons with a b16a3 head on it? and will I have to have more than 92 octane gas in this system?

Cant say specifically how much because this has not been documented and has so many variables.
There are several factors that will affect an engines ability to knock.
1. Comp ratio <-- higher will make engine knock easier
2. Shape of the cyl head combustion chamber.
3. Shape of the piston
4. Cobination of all the above.

Since your engine is not "standard", you are basically on your own in figuring out the best ignition timing for your car.

What you want to do is start the car with timing at TDC. Then do a test run(with load) on all rpms. If there is no knocking or pinging from the engine, advance it by 2 degrees. Do this step until the engine starts to knock or ping. Then back off the ignition timing a little.

Uh, 12:1 CR? How are you acheiving this?...higher comp pistons? I believe a B20/VTEC setup has VERY CLOSE valve clearances. You need to shave the stock pistons to get the proper valve relief clearance. I can't imagine it with higher comp pistons too!

there will be no clearance problems, only if I mill the head 1/2 inch.... he he. Im getting arias 12:1 comp. pistons and Im at 3000 elevation. anyone?
