regular maintainence on a b16a hybrid?
Ok, i was just curious about what kind of stuff i should do to upkeep my engine. I have a 89 civic witha b16a1. Ive never done valve adjustments or anything like that, i only do coolant stuff oil changes etc... if i were to take my car to a honda dealer, what would i tell them to do if i were to want my motor to be maintained properly?... ie any adjustments etc... what else would you reccomend?. Thanks

Thanks . It helps alot, yeah i did the cap n rotor and the wires also. Will tehy have to follow some certain specs to do the valves?.. If they do should i tell them to set them according to 99 si specs basically cuz its as close to the engine as you can get. Or a del sol engine?.

I just did the valves on my B16A recently. They're a little tougher than on, say, your SOHC CRX engine but if you bend your feeler gauges (they're little thin strips of metal) to fit under the valves it can be done. Takes ~4 hours if you've never done it before, and you'll need a screwdriver and socket set (to take the valvecover off as well as loosen/tighten the valve lock nuts).
Here's the specs for the JDM B16A:
Intake valve clearance: 0.15 - 0.19 mm (0.006 - 0.007 in)
Exhaust valve clearance: 0.17 - 0.21 mm (0.007 - 0.008 in)
If you need more specific instructions on the adjustment let me know. HTH!

You should do the following:
Distributor cap/rotor (you can use a 1990-91 Integra cap, just cut off one of the "legs")
Spark plugs (NGK coppers are part number: BCPR6ES-11
NGK spark plug wires: HE64
Have your fuel injectors cleaned/balanced/blueprinted by RC Engineering (www.rceng.com)
OEM Honda fuel filter
OEM Honda oil filter
OEM Honda timing belt, water pump & tensioner
valve adjustment (you should buy the Snap On tool & learn how to do this, it's quite valuable!)
STR cam seal
OEM Honda valve cover gasket
HTH.

Adjust valves every 30,000 miles. non platinum plugs too. If platinum NGK's
(waste of money) change every 90k. Tbelt and Wpump (Honda)at 90k under typical driving- do at 60k if slamming it all the time.cap and rotor (only use honda) typically lasts a good 60-75k. I would get the STR seal as mentioned above- don't waste money on a tensioner unless it is noisey (or hydraulic on H22). If running stock ignition- don't waste money on wires- Honda wires last almost forever. A cheap alternative is NGK wires- they are pretty good. Run a bottle of concentrated Techron through the tank- this will clean injectors- having them balanced is not critical at this point.
