Questions about a Hybrid 2.3 Vtec???
Hey Guys! What's up? I am looking for some info. I have a 96 Prelude Si 2.3 non vtec (H23A1). I am currently building a Hybrid 2.3 Vtec. The block is getting the cylinders bored .020 over. The crank is getting polished and the bottom end balanced along with crowler rods and custom Race pistons .020 over 12:1 compression. The head is a stock H22A. I don't know anyone who has built one of these, or heard anything much about one. Its kind of like a LS vtec of B20 vtec. My friend has built his B20 with ITR head also 12:1, so we are using this as an example. It's pretty much the same princapal. But here's the questions. Its all the little things, like which parts the pistons and rods are for, H23. I know I need a new header, intake manifold for an H22A but like the ecu, should I use an H22 or have mine (H23) reprogramed or H22A or H22A1 (OBD1, OBD11) etc... Which would work best? Do you know of any problems that I will have with this set up? Oil leakage ? etc... It already has the oil supply line so I don't need to run a new one like with a B20 or LS right? Any special wiring needed? I want to build it right so its getting all new berrings and seals, H22A oil and water pump I think will fit??, ARP bolts, block guard, copper head gasket, new fuel rail, pressure regulator ,cam seals , all after market stuff. This is my daily driver and I want it to run good and be very dependable without something I constantly have problems with. Please let me know if you guys have any experience with this motor. My friend is a Honda certified mechanic and works at a local Honda dealer so he knows what he is doing, but I am just looking for a little reasurrence and trouble shooting. It would be a shame to spend all this money and time on something to wish I had just swaped in a H22A. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did a search for you and came up with these two links that might be helpful:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=108191
I used to want to do this swap but it looks like too much of a hassle for me.

Same here. You could save yourself a lot of time and money by simply placing the H23 rotating assembly in an H22 block. Eliminating the "make it work" fabrication issues.

In the end it will be one HELL of a motor. That is if you get it running.
Just be careful with it since it your daily driver and you will be running a 12 to 1 compresion

I'm sorry there is no such thing as a H23B. You can't just invent your own engine codes. It will be a H23Vtec. Also, JDM stands for Japenes Domestic Market.

Re: Questions about a Hybrid 2.3 Vtec??? (H22Si)
Yeah, That will work. The bore and stroke are different. It wouldn't run. It would completly destroy the engine. Why don't you put a 3.0 V6 in a B16 block??????

There is alot more work involved with making an h23a1 vtec by putting on an h22 head. There is alot of things you will need to replace. Such as water pumps oil pumps different pulleys. I was going to do this to mine but i decided its much cheaper just to do a full h22 vtec swap.

Good for you for searching, but bad for being a damned necromancer.
