question about jdm sec. gen b16
alright im hoping you guys can help me out. i bought a 96 dx hb back in dec. and i bought a second gen. jdm b16A. i bought the mounts and axels and whatnot, and i had the company send me an OBD2 ecu with the engine to make things easier. heres my question, can i use my wire harness from the dx or do i have to buy something else? ive read that i can and ive also read i should get a 96-98 civic ex harness and use that. any thoughts? thanks.

OBD-1 Engine, OBD-2 car and ECU.
You can use a 96-00 EX harness and change the injector and distributor plugs to work with the harness or get obd-2 injectors and distributor. Then just add vtec and knock wires. Also your running a obd-2 ecu but will only have one o2 in the downpipe. The ecu will be looking for another one. Might be easier to get a obd-1 p30 and conversion harness.

You can use your stock harness and modify it easily. You just have to know your plugs and what to modify. The IAT needs to be relocated to the intake manifold if you are not going to run an si airbox. The IACV needs to be changed from a three wire plug to a two wire plug and the the pin on the ecu needs to be moved from a14 to a12. You will also need to add the knock sensor, vtec solenoid and vtec pressure switch plugs. And also lengthen the appropriate plugs to make it all look nice and pretty. And depending on whether or not that ecu is jdm or not. You might want to run the obd1 ecu like mentioned before unless you want to add the crank angle sensor, add the evap purge solenoid and run a second o2.

He already stated that the car was a 96 DX. Even if it were an EX the injectors would work but the distributor won't.
Ok, if you have a second gen OBDI B16A you can use your stock engine harness and add the extra wires for VTEC, VTEC solenoid and knock sensor. However you could get a 96-98 EX engine harness with these already embedded to make the swap almost plug and play.
If you have OBDI injectors, swap them out for your stock DX injectors (yes they have the same flow rate). If you have an OBDI distributor you can rewire the plugs with the ones from your DX distributor or get an OBDII GSR or Del Sol VTEC distributor.
I'm not 100% sure if the JDM OBDII ECU's look for a crank flucuation sensor like the USDM ones do. If so, you'll need to change the oil pump to an OBDII B series oil pump so you have the sensor.
