question about hybrid transmissions
I didnt start wondering about this topic until i was driving last week. I was ripping it in the freeway at 110 in third gear at 7200 rpm near redline. I have an h22 with an accord manual tranny mated to it. bigger gears for the turbo. What I'm wondering about is having the engine sit at a high rpm for a longer period of time. since honda designs optimal gearing ratios for specific engines, will switching those optimal ratios out for different ones hurt the engine? i know it's a pretty dumb question, but ive just been wondering.

Re: question about hybrid transmissions (H22 CD5)
No it wont hurt the engine but it also will not improve the over all performance of your car. Unless you come across a kit, such as final drive kit, or gearing kit for your application; youre pretty much stuck with what you got.
Let me make more since of the issue. Say you swap out the gearing from one stock unit to another, in order to make a hybrid tranny. Swapping certian gears out in order to make them shorter, will only make another longer. For example if you swap 2nd from another tranny, your first gear will definitly be shorter but the 2nd gear may be longer. Ive tried this several time and havent been able to come up with the perfect hybrid yet. So i wont say its undo-able, it just requires extreme patience.
