Putting '96-spec b18c-r in my '95 CX....??????
I'm ordering a jdm b18c-r from passwordjdm tomorrow. The motor comes with complete and uncut wiring harness and ecu. I would like to just run the obd2 ecu and use the itr wiring harness. What would need to be done to this wiring and the current interior wiring in my car to run? There is a similar thread (b16a2 into a '92 vx), and everyone says to use an obd1 vtec wiring harness and ecu (p72, p28, etc.). I want to use the itr ecu and harness because.....it's there and complete. Someone enlighten me please.

JDM cars are right hand drive and the ecu is on the left side usdm cars are left hand drive and ecu is on the right side, the ITR harnes will be backwards a mirror image of what you need with plugs on the wrong side, usdm ITR harness would work I guess but the obd 1 ecu is sometimes better.

First of all, you can use the RHD harness, if you want to. It will reach.
Im currently using a RHD harness in my cx.
Secondly, if you are going to use a USDM engine harness, you want to get an obd2 harness. This will plug into your motor (which is obd2) and will also plug directly into your civic main harness. Regardless if you plan to run the motor obd1 or obd2, it is easier to use the obd2 harness.
Lasty, it may seem like it will be easier to use the ITR ecu, but its not. That obd2 ecu will not plug into your civic, so you will need to purchase a jumper harness. Then you will need to convert your car to obd2. That is not exactly an easy task.
I would recommend getting a rechipped p28 ecu. This will plug into your car and will also run the motor obd1 (no need of all that extra wiring). The only thing you will really need to wire is vtec.
One thing to think about if you are going to run a rechipped ecu is:
The jdm vtec solenoid assembly doesnt have an oil pressure switch (which our usdm units have). Since you will be using a usdm ecu, you will need to get a usdm vtec solenoid assembly.
(I got one off a gsr for like $30)
Hope that helped a little.

Slopoke, you said you are using a rhd harness in your car, from what? Also, what ecu and harness combo are you using? Thanks.

Im using the rhd engine harness that came with my swap ('97 jdm b18cr).
The only wire I couldnt get to reach was the white wire that runs from your alternator to your fuse box. So I pulled that wire out of my old cx harness and used that.
Im running a kenji rechipped p28 ecu and Im very happy with it. Since my cx is a '92(prewired for vtec), I just dropped the motor in, hooked everything up, plugged in the ecu, and was good to go.

Actually, the 1996 JDM ITR ECU is not an OBDII ECU. The only thing it has in common with OBDII ECUs is the plug style. But it does not look for a secondary oxygen sensor, crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor, etc. Modifying your harness to run this ECU is no more difficult than modifying a 1988-1991 harness to run a 1992-1995 ECU. You just need to change plugs.
