Buy a new one. When the tensioner doesn't compress, then it's old and wore out and you need to replace it. Either that or make a tool that'll compress it enough for you to get the belt in & out of there.

Make sure you loosen the lock down bolt on the tensioner.

heres what i did on mine:

take out tensioner! big!

clap in a bench mount vice (make your own rules here)

take off service screw and put screwdriver in...then compress, all that jazz.

heres how i got it to stay!

zip tie! zip ties are mans best friend!

it took a couple tries and you hafta be gentle, but it was that or custom fab a tool that i will need only once maybe 2x in my whole life...

there is a tool from honda to hold the tensioner, when compressed. first you take off the tensioner. take off the little 8mm bolt. inside youll see a little screw looking device, use a little flathead screw driver, to pull the tensioner down and use the honda tool to hold it in place, put the tensioner back in place(with the tool still on) line up tdc and pull the tool off. then its like magic, self tensions. follow you manual for correct belt slack. the tool only costed me 10.00 at honda

WRONG! ^^^

Those tensioners hardly ever fail but buying a new one with the tool is not the worst thing you could do.

speak English. Please. As far as I know there is no recall on the tensioner. I have worked for Honda for over 12 years. I have built some seriously hard driving H22s in my life and not one of them has failed due to a tensioner problem. if you are eating up tensioners and belts that fast you are doing something wrong my friend.
