I can feel an up and down air of the pistons when car is running and it will idle normal and then drop idle and make a slight hum noise from the engine bay. Could that hum come from the knocksensor also not being installed. about to rebuild for boost but want to know how long i will have till the problem gets real bad. Also what type of damage will worn piston rings cause and this this happen because of some problem with compression. ls/vtec b18/b16 ?

buy a compression tester from local parts store and check each cylinder.

Compression should be how much lower then normal?

ANd how long will it last if the compression gets low. Right now i still have power in the car.

not sure of the exact pressure, but just do the test and the good cylinders will be about the same, and you will notice the bad one. and theres no way to tell how long it will last, just take it easy on the motor.
