People from NJ: 99 civic w/ Prelude motor...
Can anyone from NJ tell me if I would NEED a 99 and up Prelude motor in my 99 (OBD2b) civic to pass inspection? I am still unclear about this issue. Also, my civic is automatic, are there any other issues i should be made aware of as far as wiring or a trans mount? I have heard that the IAC is different b/t the auto and manual civics... sorry not much experience w/ the H22 and an auto to manual swap in these civics and i searched but... Thanks...

The state inspections I tried going through in NJ never checked to see what year the motor was. As long as they can hook up through the 16 pin obd2 connecter and you have no store codes you will be fine. Granted you have a semi quick exhaust and a good cat. Good luck though NJ inspection does not like modded cars that well, Im sure its that way in alot of other states also.

Hey thanks man, so did you fail b/c you have a 94 H22? Did you convert to OBD2b? By the way, that is the exact same car I just bought...

My car now is obd1 thats why I failed. I went through state inspection for the hell of it. Well actually hoping they would put the car on the dyno to test the emissions but they wouldnt do it.

Well I just found a gas station by talking to people that I paid to get the sticker for the window.
As for your car being your car being obd2b and supposedly the engine being obd2a I dont see it being an issue. Yet I dont know for sure. It just doesnt seem like it should be a problem.

I have had to "purchase" the sticker as well with the two previous cars I have owned. At this point I would just like to slide right through emissions when i have to go instead of trying to find someone or waiting for the guy i know to come through. There may be a possibility that i will move to Bethlehem/Allentown PA area soon and I know there they plug into the OBD2 cars as well. If they plug into an OBD2b car and the engine is OBD2a, will they know???

I dont think it matters if the car is obd2a or b. Im pretty sure as long as the car is 96 and newer it has to be capable of hooking up to the computer at inspections and be able to read through the connection. Hope that makes sense.

I would say most of the time they dont. Yet when I have taken my car to state inspection from what I saw from the waiting area was about 3 people examining my engine bay pretty precisly. Although no one said anything to me afterwards. Im not sure if your statement is 100% accurate. I mean whos to say that they state inspection people in NJ haven't picked up on anything yet not even just swapping motors in hondas.

Re: People from NJ: 99 civic w/ Prelude motor... (junglerunna)
Do u think that they knew the engine didn't belong in the car b/c I have dealt with some "interesting ppl" at the DMV in Fleminton. Anyway, did they try to plug your car in and if they did, what did they say? Anybody done this H22 into an auto civic b4. I have done many b series swaps, but never had to deal with the auto-manual swap. Any sugestions or links?
