Default Our shop car. '89 civic hatch NA Drag/Street

What's up everyone. Picked up this 89 honda civic hatchback in rough shape. It's completely stripped down and partially cut up already. The goal for this car is low 12's with bolt on's for this season, and we'll build it over winter. We'll also be adding in custom parts and overall, using this car as a testbed for products. Here we go!

This is how I got the car:

The previous seller drove it around just like that.

Here is the first thing to go. The stock brakes. The stock fittings completely ripped right off due to rust as I was attempting to loosen them.

Second thing to go:

Replacing the stock crossmember:

The car these bars are going on to is not supposed to have heim joints at the lca, so they gotta be welded up

Got the motor pulled:

The area yet to be massaged:

Stay tuned! plenty of pics/vids to come. Thanks for checking it out.

HAHA! Yep sure did! I guess I kinda got it for free.

Heart of the beast

That's an original KS kit! bought it years ago. Might install the whole kit. Gotta pull the pan anyway to pull some light dents. We'll see if time permits

New front knuckles

SHould be plenty of stopping power, coupled with this:

The J1 trans. Didn't have time to pull it apart today, which is ok because I don't have the parts yet anyway.

I'm depressed over this

Smashed on the car today! It really surprised me with the LS trans even.

Since there's so much to take care of, gotta start right away on the trans.

It's a J1. Got it from a member here and seems like a good trans, but had some smaller issues. Came into this country originally through HMO. Just gonna toss new bearings/seals in and call it a day! The only problems with it were bad bearing noises. Looks really clean and well maintained inside as well.

Here are the new goodies

Tore open.

Looks like a dog chewed on the bearing, and it was pretty noisy. Hope to have this done tomorrow. I only spent an hour on it.

Thanks everyone.

The mesh wheels are gone. Gave them back to the origional owner because they didn't fit over the new brakes.

ECU and fusebox mounted

ANd you can see the mayhem going on with the harness a little bit in this pic
\

All wiring from oem ecu connectors to shock tower plugs has been removed. fusebox and main relay will be wired up manually. The main harness is like 10 wires now lol. The engine harness wil plug directly in to the new ecu now.

Tranny going back together tomorrow!
