Default opinions wanted

friend has a 88 crx/B16a

the problem is the actuation of vtec, its like a casino you never know if you are going to win or lose.

sometimes first gear
sometimes second
and sometimes not at all

we have double checked everything we have done but maybe someone will have a fresh idea...

Unless your computer is fried, something must not be grounded right or correctly hooked up to have it fluctuate in the way you describe since you said you swap the solenoids and nothing happened. Back track connections to the ecu. I did a swap in which the o2 sensor wire was slighted stripped and was touching metal on the car. In turn, the car was getting incorrect o2 signals and didint run right. Sometimes is always little **** with older cars.
