Obd2 jdm civic type r and smog test (sniffer test) ??
Will the jdm obd2 motors pass a smog test? I want to get a civic type r jdm swap but I also want somthing that I wont have to worry about when emmissions come around. I will be keeping the motor stock but adding a spoon sports cat back and header. I will also be adding a high flow cat. It would be going in a 98 hatch. I had a b16a1 in a 91 hatch before with stock exhaust and cat ind it still failed the sniffer test. Can anyone give me some info on this.

Re: Obd2 jdm civic type r and smog test (sniffer test) ?? (mrtrex)
I doubt it;
A. you have to run a 98+ engine in the car to meet emmisions (technicality, part of the law)
B. with a high flow cat you are probably not going to pass emmisions
C. running OBD1 you are not going to pass emmisions for a 98 civic.
If you have someone that has a sniffer and you can dyno tune the car you MIGHT with an OBDII ecu be able to pass emmisions. At least in Northern IL they connect to the DLC and read values off of the ecu when they have it on the dyno using the sniffer.

not correct I will be passing 16b.

Thats prob why. cause when they run the engine code there is no listing for it in the US. also wen the run the ecu code, there is no listing for it in the US.
u cannnot pass it unless u know how to cheat the system. in ur case ur ref was a freidn of urs

Re: (AL ASPIRATED)
there are many people who have gotten bar stickers with jdm motors in their cars without cheating anything, engine codes and such dont matter as long as emission equipment is there and you pass the test

Re: (twistedbydezign)
I dont live in CA so this wont be that hard. For emissions time I am going to swap the ecu with a 99 si ecu. All I have is an obd2 test. They did away with the sniffer. I am using a 99 usdm harness and hooking up all of the us emissions equipment, fooling the vtec pressure switch and putting in a us oil pump so that it will pass the obd 2 scan. Then once I am done passing inspection I will just plug back in the jdm computer. It will cost a bit more but it will pass.

have u done the swap yet? cause u cannot use da 99-00 si harness, u need a 96-98 ex harness or modify it to fit urs, also not sure if u can use 99-00 ex.
the difference between the si and other harness is that they run all the way to the ecu, si doesnt.
also the 96-98 harness will not match the 99-00 ecus. there are some wires needs to be moved.
ALSO
if you know ur smog tech then u can cheat the system. just like the way it sounds like ur trying to do. im not sayin its a bad thing, i would too if i could.

Re: (AL ASPIRATED)
This is the harness that I bought. It has the pluggs that go to the ecu. I also bought an obd2b to obd2a harness. You can see a pic of it here. Just scroll down the post. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=735465

im almost postive the si harness doesnt run to the ecu,m but that one u can see it does.
anyways if dat is a 99-00 harness why u buy the obd2b to obd2a harness? if u can use the 99-00 harness den theres no need for the conversion harness, cause ur using a obd2b ecu on an obd2b harness

Re: (AL ASPIRATED)
My ecu is off of a 98 ctr which is obd2a. On hondaparts it shows the wiring harness as one peice the ecu pluggs included. The only time I will be running the obd2b ecu is for emissions.

dude I tried everything from USDM ecu to obd0 ecu. nothing passed
your obviously new to this smog scene
jdm motor have hard time passing no matter what fyi

Re: (bossman032)
If you use all usdm emission equipment you will pass smog. It is expensive and a pain in the *** but it can be done. We passed a sir2 obd1 it was $$ but still passed. A little detuning helps also.

yea I didn't try detuning the motor don't want to do it on a expensinve motor
