OBD1 LS into 97 DX Hatch... Wiring Questions
Hey H-T
Got a few questions. I picked up an LS block the other day with the intake manifold but no throttle body. It will be going into a 1997 civic dx hatchback. I am good with the mounts, shift linkage axles, but I have some questions about wiring after a good amount of reading...
1) I would like to use the obd1 ecu with a rywire jumper. Doing so, I can use the obd2 ls distributor, ls alternator and d-series injectors with the swap, right? That way, all I need to buy wiring-wise is the rywire conversion harness, right?
2) The guy gave me an obd1 intake manifold with no throttle body. Will the 97 dx wiring harness (obd2) work with all the sensors on this?
3) In the FAQ section, I was reading about wiring... If the answer to question 1 above is yes, then the only thing I would need to do for wiring is purchase the rywire obd2a to obd1 ecu jumper, source an obd2 ls alternator and distributor (both of which would connect to my dx harness no problem), perform the IACV mod, and then put an obd1 IAT plug on my harness (where the obd2 plug was) and extend it to reach the obd1 IAT sensor location on the intake manifold.
Would this be right? Please let me know H-T. Thanks in advance!
Brian

Don't use the DX injectors as they are 180cc vs the 240cc LS injectors. You will probably have to extend your primary oxygen sensor as well.

Ok. I am good with a soldering iron so that's no problem and I actually got ls injectors I just hadn't looked up if they were different or not, but you've answered that question. Thank you. On that note, are the wire colors for the obd1 and obd2 injectors the same?

Oh ok yeah I saw that link from the FAQ, I should have looked at that before.... So would this all be okay if I use obd2 intake manifold, alternator and distributor? Would they be plug and play with the dx harness?

you'll have to rewire the iacv plug and also do a ckf bypass. also IAT sensor if you want to use the one mounted on the intake manifold.

Re: OBD1 LS into 97 DX Hatch... Wiring Questions
Yeah I decided upon reading that for ease of swap/wiring the OBD1 ecu would be the best. I could purchase a jumper for the ecu. That way I try to keep the "modding" down. I am not an expert with my soldering, but good enough to extend wires, cover them properly, and make it look like it (almost) never happened...
However, one of my original questions that I was hoping to have answered remains...
1) Can I use the obd2 intake manifold/throttle body, alternator, and distributor with the 97 dx harness? Will they plug up directly to the harness or is modification required? The dx harness is obd2, but I don't want to jump to conclusions before purchasing.
Thanks for all of the help so far!

New question: I read that the obd2 distributor does not meet properly with the obd1 head... It will leak oil. Is that correct?

Re: OBD1 LS into 97 DX Hatch... Wiring Questions
Ok sweet, so I do not need to worry about that then? Thanks again. That clears up some last minute uncertainty as I have been slowly piecing the build together. My tranny t-bracket will be here this weekend and I am hoping to drop the motor in... That way I can sell the old D and make a few $$$ back... I may rebuild it first though...
