Default Noob to Honduh's

Hello, i just registered on this site, i am a dsm guy, but ive always loved vtec i have a few friends wiith honda's acura's, I saw a swap down on a integra a while ago and i paid close attention to it, so my friend bought a jdm b18c1 for his 94cx hatch, he had no one to install, so i told him i can give it a shot and 2 days later we had his car running. i did not know how to hook up the vtech though but i was amazed at how easy it was.

anyways ive been looking for a good deal on a honda lately to get better gas mileage than the dsm(huge injectors, winbro pump, fpr) so i got a call the other day from a friend saying his mechanic has a 88 hatch that runs good with no a/c the body is in pretty good shape except a dent on the driver door its a faded red also, i know a bit about body work and i am gonna paint it black, but he watns 800 for it.

my question is, is the b series vtec swap the sameon the 88 EF compared to a 92 cx?? i understand that i would have to get a mounting kit from hasport, but what else would i need? Im thinking about a b18c1 right now. ALso i have not been able to find any info on wireing so ima bit confused on that also right now

plz help!!!

the biggest problem you will have with this swap is with the b18c1 and hydraulic tranny. you will have to buy a cable to hydro conversion kit for the car because an 88 hatch originally comes with a cable transmission. putting a hydro tranny into a cable tranny car isnt possible without the kit. the next problem is with the diagnostics. the 88 hatch motor/ecu/wiring is OBD0, and the b18c1 swap is OBD1. you will have to buy a conversion harness to convert obdo to obd1. those are the two main issues. if you visit hasport.com you will find more swap info there as well as prices on the conversion wiring, mounts, and shift linkage.

or you could just do the swap with out those conversion pieces youll just have to buy all the hydrolic **** from a newer civic and get creative, as for the wiring you can do that with out a conversion harness as well the harness just makes it easier.

You could just use an older cable tranny from a B16. Hard to find but very possible.

But the cable-hydro system isn't that bad, there are a few fabs out ther with some nice pics so you can copy it relatively easily.
