NO VTEC... cel 21....checked 10 times
I have no vtec and the cod its throwing is a 21 which is vtec solonoid... I checked the wiring from the solonoid to the ecu and its fine checked a diff. solonoid, nothing and I even tried another p28, nope. I ran a different wire to the ecu and that did not help I am going by the helms manual on where to run the wires ( A4=vtec solonoid, D6=vtec switch) checked everthing 10 times, checked to see if the ohms from the solonoid and it seems to be working checked the switch too and everthing seems to be in working order it just wants to throw that code. Any ideas? if so please put them down....
thanks

take a jumper wire from the + battery terminal to the VTEC solenoid. it should click if its still workin. if it doesnt click u have a bad solenoid.

i dont know if this would throw a code or not but of course, check oil level, and maybe check the screen inside the solenoid. ive heard that can get "clogged" and cause VTEC to not work.

Are you 100% sure that the A4 wire is indeed going to the solenoid (1 terminal, on the top of the assembly), and D6 is going to the pressure switch (2 terminals, sticking out the side of the assembly)? If your solenoid is clicking with 12 volts direct, and all your wires OHM out tothe ECU, this is the only remaining possibility in my eyes.

make sure your oil is just a little bit above the ful mark and make sure your oil pan isnt dented to hell because if it is the oil pickup isnt getting enough pressure to open vtec.....i had the same problem like a month ago i swapped all diffrent solenoids and pressure switches and all i had to do was add a small amount of oil..i also replaced all the screens and gaskest to the vtec solenoid assembly that might have helped

where you throwing a code of some sort? is this why you checked the oilpan... I do have a dent on the oilpan and a little on near the pickup I am going to try pounding out the dent and see if that helps

Re: NO VTEC... cel 21....checked 10 times (infamousLSVTEC)
this is my harness if you are looking from the bottom up I think (the clip plug ins are on top and the first plug has 13 pins) and as you can see I have a4 going to solonoid (botom, 2 over) and d6 going to the switch (third plug, bottom, 3 over) these are the only plugs going to the harness.
I am using 0bd 2- 1 converter made by jason on here I just spliced the wires and ran them to the ecu, should i have spliced into them instead of cutting them from going to my obd2 harness also? anyway if you have any ideas please shoot... I have tried everything else.

When your oil pressure is low causing it to not hit vtec, it wont throw codes will it? It didnt on my gsr motor. I dont know what else it can be besides the dent ont he oil pan though. But if its only small then there isnt a bg chance of that being it.

i wasnt throwing a code when i didnt have vtec.
the only thing that tipped me off is the oil light stayed on for 1/3 seconds after a cold start.

What's your oil pressure in the cyl head? You need to find out if things are mechanically correct, then move on to electrical.

I don't understand how the low oil level would cause no Vtec. The Vtec pressure switch is in the oil circuit after the solenoid, and looks for pressure after the Vtec has activated to ensure that the activation was proper. So what happens is the ECU turns on Vtec, and then goes and checks that the pressure came up to the correct level at the pressure switch.
If your oil was low, your Vtec would turn on, but almost immediately shut back off again, and kick a code 22 (Vtec oil pressure switch).

Well, if you know someone with a gsr or si, you can swap the entire vtec assembly and see what happens. If you are still throwing codes it's either the ecu or oil pressure. I had to do this to discover why my vtec wasn't working. The answer was what I had thought, but odd nonetheless: some kind of obstruction or stenosis in the head's oil gallery.
