Default No tach after swap?

I just finished my swap this weekend, started up first try with no codes! Swap is 1st gen B16 with LSD YS1 into 91 Si hatchback. Used the Hasport welded kit and the Si to SiR additional wiring harness to keep it simple. Only problems are that the exhaust didn't match up and I have no tach. Rigged the exhaust for now until I can get my cat extended when I get paid. But does anyone know what would keep the tach from working? What should I check? Also, I think I have vtec, certainly feels like it kicks in, but would the ecu know to kick it on with no tach? Once again, I have no codes. TIA.

Hey I live in motor city, MI too. When I did my swap it worked fine. did you check to make sure the tach cable is firmly in the trans sometimes it comes out. also I think the blue (i think) wire that comes from the distributor has the tach signal on it. I'm not sure completely how the cable trans works. I have the haynes manual if you want to look at it.

Steve

There are 2 connectors on your distributer the 2 pin connector with the black wire and the blue wire. The blue wire is you tach signal. If you werent getting a tach signal to your ecu your car would not start. It would not know when to inject fuel or spark. Check you connections in the back of your cluster. Is it an Aftermarket tach or factory?

It is a factory tach that worked before the swap and cluster was not touched during swap, although the wire might have been pulled when getting slack for other repins at the ECU. I will be working on it probably tomorrow more extensively, but will check the items you both mentioned tonight if I can. Thanks.

Oh, and Salt, I just realized how silly it is to have my real city name in my profile. Can you edit it out of your message? That way we both are safe rather than sorry. Hey, I will probably be at the big weekly meeting at Murrays on Friday, my name is Ken and my car looks just like it does in my avatar, stop by and say Hi if you can.

Thanks guys fixed it. Blue wire for tach was split right at the distributer. 5 minutes to prep, solder and test. Now I just need to get the exhaust done Friday or Monday and I will be happy. With the leaky rig job we did, have either drive super slow or really fast or else it bogs. Like a really bad exageration of the low rpm partial throttle bog I had with header, exhaust, and free flow cat on stock D16a6. And thanks for editing your post Salt! Hope to see you at a local event someday.

So your stock b16 exhaust manifold didn't quite reach your cat? Hmm.. I don't like the sound of that, I'm doing the same swap soon but in a rex and now very curious about this.

Default Yeah, didn't fit, but

my exhaust has been "altered" slightly, pulled back to give clearance for my swaybar. YMMV.
