A new kind of hybrid
I know this is OT, but interesting none the less.
I was just talking to a co-worker of mine that is working on a car project right now. He has an 85 Fiero with a 96 LT1 V8 in it. It's not completed yet, but when he shipped the car down after dropping the motor in it, they tuned it to 345 HP at the rear wheels. He has a fully programmable ECU for it with about 10 pre-settings for fuel and timing, or he can make his own. He has it on 5 right now. He said anything above 8 and he has to pull the cats. Oh and he doesn't have to worry about emissions either since it's an 85 (I guess).
He's guessing high 10's once he's done. Sweet!

Re: A new kind of hybrid (HXMan)
I've seen several bolt in motor kits for the Fiero. One involves a Caddy Northstar, which uses all the Northstar tranny stuff, etc.. The other is a bolt in kit for a SBC, which comes with a bellhousing adapter and uses the fiero tranny and axles. Guy says the fiero a/t is good to 350hp and the m/t is good to 450. Not bad for a GM product.

Seriously, I loved that car too. I thought it was like a younger brother to a Ferrari or something. I liked Probes alot too... things we think as kids.

Re: A new kind of hybrid (fowler)
i was at road america for the USTCC race this year and another club was running and it included a race prepped v6 fiero...he blew his engine when he was going up the hill to the start/finish line...found out he blows and engine every other race...but he's got 5 engines in the shop and just rebuilds it cheaply and puts a new one in

Re: A new kind of hybrid (jaje)
How much fun is changing engines? I'd rather throw in the 350 and have it reliable! Actually, that much torque in a wheelbase that short scares me...
