You can use the Skunk 2 conversion harness to do the swap. The only disadvantage is that the factory pgm tester won't work if you try to diagnose problems.

y0! first of all do a search....
ok i had a obd1 b16a in my 97 civic(ej8), these are all the parts that i used for the swap
1. b16a motor, shiftlinlinkage, axles
2. b16a tranny(hydro only)
3. 99-00 civic si mounts
4. p28 " chipped" ecu
5. skunk2 obd2-obd1 harness
you can use your exsisting motor harness all you have to do is add the vtec wires.
you'll need an obd2-obd1 harness, there are different companies out there that make it. i have one right now made by skunk2, i'll sell it for $150 shipped.
pros:
well its not obd2
you have more choices when picking an ECU
cons:
its not going to be smog legal here in cali.
the harness will coz you money
well thats all i can think of right now, if i miss anything or any typo feel free to correct it. peace

Just use obd2 components like the fuel injectors, distributor, alternator and run either an obd1 ecu with a jumper harness or run a jdm itr ecu. Both of those wont look for 2nd o2 and other obd2 sensors that usdm ecu's look for.

I guess that means ya can't just use an OBD1 ECU with an ODB1>ODB2 conversion harness and plug the existing EK wire harness into the OBD1 motor ?

You can still do that. But who wants to hack up every single sensor to make it plug into obd1? If he is using the stock harness, which he has no other choice, it is just easier to use obd2 components so it plugs up. If he wants to run the obd1 ecu, he still can.
