Need help! Car is ticking.
Here is my problem. When I started my swap the first time, I had just the header and downpipe hooked up. It sounded fine. But now I have my whole exhaust connected and I can hear a ticking noise in the head. Now, I don't have my knock sensor hooked up cause there wasn't a clip on my harness that would fit. Is this what is causing the ticking? Reason I ask is because the guy at the auto store siad that the knock sensor is mostly for the upper half of the motor. Ok, so here's my setup, and important question. I have a 97 h22a4 SH, and I'm using my 96 ex wiring harness, with a h22a OBD1 P13 ecu. Is there any other Honda, or Acura models that I can take the knock sensor clip off of the harness's? I need to get this running my morning, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance.

you can get a knock sensor clip from any b-series vtec motor as far as i know. have you tried doing a valve adjustment?

Does the b-series vtec knock sensor have to be from a 97+, or are they all the same? And no, I haven't tried a valve adjustment.

^^ i'm assuming you're talking about obd differences. as far as that i dunno. if i were you i'd try the valve adjustment first cause if it is done right, they never hurt. i've also been reading about LMA's (lost motion assymblies) making ticking noises in heads. apparently the LMA's from a 2000+ preludes are good and cheap if it turns out that you have to replace them. have you checked the bolts to your cat for tightness since you said it sounded fine without the exhaust attached?

I dont have a cat. I am just running a straight pipe. I can clearly hear it coming from head. I took some steel wool and stuffed it in the exhaust so I could hear better on where it was coming from. It is coming from the head for sure. Also, It is running like crap. Here check my other post out:

it sounds like you have narrowed down to a timing issue and that is a good place to start. definately has symptoms of timing problems. check timing gear alignment, timing on crank pulley, recheck firing order and all ignition components. if you are getting a code for the knock sensor, then you should be running in limp mode which will also cause some weird things. did you get a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness for the ecu or did you wire it yourself? i'd also recheck any and all wiring changes you had to make.
