Icon6 my first sohc build

my y8 is on its last leg, wanting to do a full rebuild but i figure i might as well do a little more with it. main thing is i know basically nothing about engine building besides what can be learned lurking the forums. did searches and couldn't find answers to my questions. i want to build my y8 with pm6 pistons to bump cr up to 11.2

basically i was wanting to either do a mini-me using a friends y7 block and that brings me to my first question would it be better to do a y7 or y8 bottom end. are they different? how?

secondly what kind of rods would i use? could i use my rods or will i need new rods and pins to accompany my pm6 pistons?

is egay my best resource for these parts?

What other advice could i get from all you honda gurus? pertaining to building my engine

i'm curious why you posted this in the 'Hybrid' sub-forum, i'm also wondering if that has anything to do with the lack of responses. i agree with your comment, this is honda-tech... you post something about building a D-series and a handful of 'haters' tell you you're wasting your money and just swap or turbo. pansies!

..sorry, got carried away. haha.

i couldn't say much for specifics, but i don't think there is a huge difference between the Y7 and Y8 bottom ends... you could try finding this in the 92-00 civic forum. you may also want to try searching/posting on some SOHC specific forums. you'll get more info in greater depth from people who have tried it before. some examples if you haven't found them yet..

use a y7 or y8 bottom end what ever has less cylinder sleeve wear and a good crank.

or just use an A6 bottom end and bolt your engine up. then you wont need to reassemble a block.

your Y series rods and piston pins will work fine with PM6 pistons

www.fjdistributors.com should be able to get you everything you need. i just dont like their head gaskets. but thats just my opinion. chinese head gaskets are bad news.

you'll probably want a cam and some tuning to take advantage of the 11:2 cr.
i would convert to obd1, chip and tune ecu

except for pistons an oil pans, y7 and y8 bottom ends use the same parts.
they can be interchanged.

oem rods for oem pistons. as long as they're d16 rods
