I would like to know as well...

Would you have to do this modification on a B20z with a Type R head w/ using Type R cams?

i enlarged mine on my B20B, and you HAVE to do it on the B20Z's

i took it to a shop and they butchered the pistons pretty bad, they didnt take them out of the block.

but teh reiliefs were bigger by 3mm and i clayed the motor at +6/-6 on the cam gears and no contact

you could do it yourself with a dremel, but would be risky...

if you can take tehm out of the block and take tehm to a reputable shop and tell em that the reliefs need to fit 33mm valves with slightly higher lift...

does this help?

i will call my shop about this and see what they wanna do...
even if I tell them to take the pistons out to do it, im sure they wont....
but I will tell them to make them bigger for sure

i did mine also, i took off about 3mm's and i have the b20Z
Something strange happend w/ my tentioner, and i slipped like 6 teeth, and nothing hit, so i guess im ok

looking at the p3f and the phk pistons, they seem to have = as deep valve reliefs....

it is safer to do this with the pistons out of the block, but it has been done successfully before (I've only seen one) with the pistons in the block. If you attempt it with the pistons in the block, which I am in no way reccommending, make sure that the block is completely empty of any fluids, completely empty. Take a piece of cardboard and cut it out to the exact pattern of the deck, leaving only holes for the cylinders. Take your prepped cardboard off of the motor, plug up all the oil orfices real well with cut up shop rages or some type of rag that doesnt leave lint or whatnot in your motor. Cover up the dipstick orfice also, sediment can fly in there also. Make sure that the oil and coolant orfices are plugged up flush with the deck, put the cardboard pattern back on and tape it to the block real well, then take your dremel to it, make every move deliberate and precise with the dremel or you will mess it up. Make sure to have compressed air, and blow away the shavings quite frequently. A vaccum with a small nozzle would work real well here also. Measure the valve reliefs to 33 mm before you start, and mark the pistons well, keep in mind that the valve travel inward to the combustion chamber at an angle, so the depth of the valve reliefs is nt as important as the diameter. Dont go to deep, or you will go through the piston, and even then, you dont want to go to deep cause the less material there is, the easier heat builds up and it starts to test the integrity of the piston.

Hope that helped.
