Mini-Me Questions: Y8 Head, A6 Block
Hey guys,
I'm sure the mini-me issue has been beaten to death, and I've extracted a lot of useful info from a lot of other posts, but I want to get some confirmation that what I want to is feasible, and to get some advice from those that have experience with this head swap.
In short: I have a stock 1990 Si (D16A6) motor in my '90 Si HB currently. It's running fine, but I'm looking for a little more power than the 108hp + bolt-ons I'm currently pulling, without spending $3,000+ on a complete B16 changeover. I'm not in the market for the B16 right now because I just bought this new(er) D16 about 8 months ago to replace the cooked engine that came with the car when I bought it.
I found a complete D16Y8 head for sale for $150, said to be in perfect working order. Is this a good price for the head?
Now, as far as the technicals are concerned I was thinking about the following:
Y8 head on the A6 block, removing the oil jet from the block
Keeping the Si intake manifold and throttle body, and exhaust manifold
Using Y8 timing belt, head gasket, intake manifold gasket, and exhaust manifold gasket
Hooking up an Apex'i VAFC on the PM6 OBD-0 ECU for VTEC control, and I would rather have adjustable fuel mapping from the VAFC than using an OBD-II ECU and losing all tuning control.
Does this sound about right? Am I forgetting anything? Also, anybody that has done this swap, have you had any issues like the engine overheating or anything else?
I figure for a few hundred dollars I can up to 127hp which would be cheaper than buying and dropping in a DOHC ZC and I won't have any distributor nightmares since I can just keep using my working A6 dizzy, right?
Thanks a lot for your help and advice guys and gals!

Re: Mini-Me Questions: Y8 Head, A6 Block (mal4g)
I was thinkin the same thing,
I used the search using " vafc and mini me"
This works for me.
I think I wanna create a FAQ thread linking all good threads to one thread
and FAQ it.
