Matts 4wd CRX project

I wanted to wait till i actually began the project to post up some pics and the plan of what im attempting to pull off. I started off with an 88 CRX then i went to the junk yard and got myself an 88 RT4wd civic wagon which i pulled the drivetrain out of such as the tranny driveline, rear diff, rear subframe, rear axles, rear bubs, half shaft, shifter assembly, ect ect..... heres some pix of what we got done tonight in about 3 hours.

props for keeping it simple, much more likely to get it going https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif
From the pics it looks like you just spot welded the two different arms together...also those things look pretty rusty. You might want to clean that up before you start welding and getting things really together...I have some http://www.Eastwood.com rust converter I'll send you for a few bucks, its all unopened...

wow those welds seem shady! Please tell me thats just an early mach up

mattcivic 08-03-2007 08:04 PM

Re: Matts 4wd CRX project (143MYVTECEF)

yes its just tacked together for now and i know the parts are all rusty but it was the only 4wd wagon in the county i could find. dont worry ill be sure all the surfaces are clean for welding and when im done i plan on taking it all back out to clean everything and paint it black.

Re: Matts 4wd CRX project (mattcivic)

I've been thinking of doing this exact thing. why did you have to cut the civic arm? did you just shorten it?

mattcivic 08-04-2007 08:25 AM

Re: Matts 4wd CRX project (BIG RICH)

ya they are longer than the CRX ones. after all the measurments we found that the holes about 3 inches from both drums on the swing arms are exactly where they need to be cut and joined together we left some over lap to make it stronger.

Got to give you props on tackling this project. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif But from what I've heard is that those transmissions and the (4wd) drive train are weak, they might not handle high horse power.

Re: Matts 4wd CRX project (LSR 0NE)

ya but ive had my 4wd wagon turbo'd for a while and its holding up fine. im not building the car to drag its going to my autocross car. i have 2 4wd trannies and im about to buy another one so i have plenty on hand if the worst should happen.

Re: (misanthropist)

its gunna be supercharged not turbo charged

Re: Matts 4wd CRX project (mattcivic)

well the rear diff is mounted the other control arm is tacked together. before u flip out about the axles coming out at wierd angles its because we wanted to be able to use the same axle on both sides because the stock wagon axles are different by about an inch or so and it hides the diff a lil because i dont want people seeing its 4wd right away.... so we centerd the diff and moved it a lil forward and its gunna work perfectly. this seemed easier to us and now when i go to the track i will only need to bring 2 spare axles with me (one for the front and one for the back) instead of 3. And nothing is final its all tacked into place if it wont work we can change it.

https://i134.photobucket.com/albums/...man/crx4wd.jpg

the left axle is the short one so it looks a lil funny in there but i wanted to just kinda see what it looks like

https://i134.photobucket.com/albums/...an/crx4wd3.jpg

https://i134.photobucket.com/albums/...an/crx4wd2.jpg

https://i134.photobucket.com/albums/...an/crx4wd1.jpg

thurseday night were gunna take it all out and do the rest of the welding to make the traling arms stronger and more apealing to the eyes. then i will put the integra front knuckes on along with make the integra disc set-up fit on the back. once the suspension and breaks are all good to go i will put the new engine and tranny in and measure for a driveline. its gunna be hard but i want to get the car somewhat finished enough to go to the last auocross on the 2nd of september it wont be supercharged and only be running on some azenis but it will be fun.

toyomatt84 08-07-2007 08:48 PM

The axles still seem to be at quite an angle to the hub/housing. I would move the differential further back, if possible.

mattcivic 08-07-2007 09:02 PM

Re: (toyomatt84)

i know i thought the same thing but it will work i had the long axle in both sides. i kinda thought of not posting those pix of it because of peoples doubt but i forgot im an ass and i dont care haha. trust me its gunna work.

It just seems to me, that it'll cause premature wear and tear on the cv's themselves.
