manual vs. auto ecu
on a 98 civic factory automatic car the ecu has 4 plugs, well on a b16 the ecu (automatic) the ecu has 4 plugs what do i do?????? the engine will start and run but the shifter wont come out of park....... do i have a manual ecu???

probably, manual ecu 's don't have the interlock function which will allow the shifter to be removed from park.

I'm not 100% positive on OBD2 ecu's but on OBD0 and OBD1 the shift position interlock is NOT controlled by the ECU. It is in the shifter mechanism itself. The mechanism merely sends a signal to the ECU to tell it what gear the car is in. The ECU only reads that signal, it doesn't control it at all. PM katman on this question he'll know the answer.
