My friend has a lsvtec setup with ctr piston and stock b16a1 head. There is a clicking sound around the cam gears and intake manifold. We thought valve clearance, but took it to get valves adjusted and the machanic sad it wan't the valves. So he started to play with the lifters and it sounded like the same sound we where hearing. He said to put 4 quarts (20-50) and 1 q of marvel. If it was valve clearance how long would the motor go for he has 4000 miles on it. Has anyone had this problem before?What else makes a clicking sound like that?

i have the same problem... its called detonation.... pre-ignition... u need the highest octane u can get... 93+

it sounds like the hydrolic lifters are shot

i'd drain the oil and put 5-30 synthetic and see how it goes

We got synthetic in it right now and it still is making that sound. How hard is it to get the lifters replaced and how much?For the first oil change i put synthetic in and i got about 4000 miles on the oil.Would it cause any major problems or leak if i put in regular oil like the mech said?

the reason why he said to do that was to condition the hydrolic lifters

try the valvoline maxlife 20-50

it would prolly be cheaper to just buy a bare b16 head
