LS/Vtec sputters, but won't start (Ideas)
Folks, I have a LS/Vtec in my EF (DX) CRX. When I tried to start it, all it will do is sputter (fire a few revs). All header tubes get hot so all cylinders are getting fuel and spark.
The DX was previously converted (by a shop) to MPFI for the old ZC I was running. I purchased a wiring harness converter to go to ODBI but unfortunately my Dizzy is ODBII, so I had to direct wire it. The ECU is an ODBI GSR Ecu.
We checked valve/cam timing again and found it spot on. We check firing order and found it spot on. The plugs are firing because we pulled 'em and found soot and raw gas.
Right now the only thing we can think of is the problem we had attaching the DX's fuel line to the 96 GSR fuel rail. We couldn't figure out the weird arrangement of washers and wound up cranking down the fuel nut at the end of the rail to keep the line from leaking. (I've since stripped it and have to order a new one).
We've tried positioning the dissy from full advance to full retard and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Every few start attempts the motor, fires on a bit then stops and remains in cranking mode. We've tried full open throttle, partial throttle, no throttle.
I don't suspect bad gas as the car has been garaged for 6 weeks.
Ideas? Thanks.
