Default LS/Vtec oil galley plug leak ... WTF!

I'm running a b16a head on a b18a block. I've got an oil leak on the distributor side of the block. It looks like it's coming from the head gasket area. I lose about a quart every 1000 miles or so. I tapped and plugged the vtec oil hole in the head when I did the swap but I used teflon tape to help seal the plug, bad move? Anyone else have this problem? Could it be something else I'm not thinking of? I would think that even if the plug was leaking the head gasket would hold a seal. I'm thinking of JB Welding that plug in there permanently. It's not the distributor or cam plug or valve cover gasket
