Default LS/Vtec - Give me opinions on my setup...

Alright this is the first motor that I have pieced together and after all I have read I think I should be alright. I am welcoming all opinions and advice! With this setup I believe I should be at ABOUT 11:5:1 . This is now making me question how much should I mill the head. 10, 20 thousandths? I want to be on pump gas too! Has anyone use a similair setup, and what kind of Hp/Trq are we looking at?

B18b block, stock bore, pr3 pistons, shotpeened LS rods, KMS blockguard, gsr oil pump, gsr water pump, micropolished crank (LS obviously), z10 girdle (and gsr oil pan, pickup).

P72 Head (GSR), Crower dual valvesprings / Retainers, Rev Racing valves, Zex Stage 2 Cams, Ferrea bornze valve guides, Ferrea valve locks.

Thanks for looking!

Be sure to upgrade your rod bolts. I learned the hard way. Get the ARP's, they only cost about $35 bucks a set.

No other advice? I just ordered those ARP rod bolts the 8mm ones I heard were the correct ones. I know there are more of you opinionated people out there, let me hear your voice!

Looks like a nice setup. Sorry I can't help, but how did you install your Z10 girdle?

Since I just ordered the ARP rod bolts that were recommended, I have not had a chance to put the girdle on yet. I did a couple test fits, and it [I]seems [I] to fit alright. I will have to wait and torque everything down before I can give you an answer....wait till friday.

I always thought you had to machine work it to make it fit or something.

well I'll go ahead and guarantee that it has to be machined. That's why if i got a block girdle, I'd get the one from hybrid garage. According to C-speed, your CR will be 11.58, shave the head .010 and you'll be at 11.9. You can go all the way to 12.5 on pump gas. My lsvtec is pretty much the same as yours (pr3's - B16 head) and I'm right at 12:1. Did you get the ARP Head studs too?

I did not get the ARP head studs...I was just going to use the GSR head studs because they are a bit longer than the LS head studs. Man, all these little nit-picking parts are getting expensive. How exactly does the block girdle have to be machined? According to http://www.z10eng.com their block girdle is bolt-on. Do explain!

When I said head studs i meant ARP GSR head studs. um, honestly I can't really remember what has to be machined something about dowel pins and one of the main caps. I don't have one, I just do ALOT of research. do a search on it. (if its working worth a damn today)
If it were me I would have bought this:
http://app1.hybridgarage.com/store/h...7%2001%2000001

It is complete bolt on. I'll see if i can find the post about the z10 one.

I don't know about most of the LS/Vtec guys here, but I have heard numerous times revving an ls/vtec to 8600 rpms is begging for trouble. I'm about to picking a 95 integra w/ ls/vtec, so I'll be dealing with all of this also. But fortunatly, it was all done properly.. and if I have problems, I'll sell the swap and do turbo LS

Shot peened rods have been treated somewhat like sand blasting, except that instead of sand steel shot (bb's) are used. It relieves stress on the surface, and hardens it.

Properly done, it increases strength. From what I've read, unless you can get it done by someone who does it as a mainline (core competency) instead of a sideline (most shops), it's likely to do more harm than good.

Read a survey that had it done as half a dozen places and then did a lab analysis. Wasn't pretty.

Safe play -- keep what you have or buy aftermarket. Shop around, be careful.
