LS Turbo Or LS/V Turbo
So before I get flammed for this yes I have searched and searched for many hours on many forums. I parted out my turbo EG.. kept the turbo, intercooler and all that. I bought an 89 civic si with an LS swap in it. Im looking to make 450-500 whp with my 60-1. Doing head work to the LS (Cams,PnP,Springs,Retainers) and a piston and rod combo. Is that do able or would i be better off doing the LS/V Turbo and doing the same head work plus pistons and rods. Im not super worried about the cost just being able to effectively reach my goal. I realize yes all the other supporting mods are needed im basically asking about the heads them selves Ive read contradicting stories about the LS head.
My other concern is doing the LS/V even with aftermarket rods and arps and the head work what is the fastest youd recommend to spin the motor. do to the r/s ratio. I want to make the power and be able to spin the motor and still have a SEMI reliable motor. obviously at those power levels longevity is not the main concern but i want it to last for a little while.
any help or insight is greatly appreciated thank you.

Re: LS Turbo Or LS/V Turbo
in forced induction forum there is a lst making 400whp ...
i currently have an lsv right now all motor, but i am pulling my vtec head and going lst im gonna go stock block for the moment until i build a block... but for stock block there really is no point in having a vtec head because stock bottom end can handle only soo much and a vtec head isnt really going to make that big of a difference imho....
but once i build a motor i dont know what im gonna go with ill probably stay all ls just for the hell of it and make around 400 and be done i dont need a super fast street car lol but vtec+turbo does sound really f'n nice
its up to you on what you want to do but if your doing a basic setup just stay ls

Re: LS Turbo Or LS/V Turbo
I personally have been on both sides of the ball. I like the ls-vtec turbo over the lst for a couple reasons. First your bumping your compression, therefore giving better response at wot plunge. Also I don't know if there was an actual advantage over ls or not, but when vtec crossed over, the motor opened up and was a completely different beast. There's some thing you've gotta think about though. Why do guys switch to say, the web cam vtec elemination kit and don't just build an ls head. Besides the obvious oil pressure drop issues that occur away from the head when vtec crosses over on high HP, high reving motors... I think it because the vtec heads were designed and built with performance in mind. You have to assume the oil passages, water jackets, flow characteristics, are all superior to its little brother. Compare it to the question, why a Gsr or itr water pump over my ls pump? Well it was designed with high revs and performance in mind, therefore able to push more volume. No brainer. Sort of the same deal with your head dellema.

Re: LS Turbo Or LS/V Turbo
yea i will agree vtec head flows better, for a street car though mostly driving around at 3-4k no need for it....
if a motor can make 300whp with a normal ls head then what is the difference then with having a 300whp vtec head, sure you can rev it higher if you dont mind trying to spin a rod bearing but if you keep the rev limit at 7500 where is your power under vtec gonna be? gone lol
show me a dyno graph of an ls turbo making say mmm 280whp revving to 7500 and show me the same graph of an lsv making 280 revving to 7500
the tq is going to be down on a vtec head sure it flows better and has vtec but when not in vtec tq is gonna be poop, and i can honestly say ive felt the difference between ls and lsv all motor and track times difference as well
like i said for basic 250-300whp there isnt really a need for vtec atleast i dont think so people may argue my point but it doesnt matter everyone always jumps on the vtec bandwagon (including me lol) but im taking my gsr head off and putting on my ls head
very simple program KISS keep it simple stupid
