K20 RWD
I am in the process of researching a RWD K20 setup in my DC2.
tube rear end - obviously north/south the motor.
mods to firewall and tunnel - etc etc
I am almost ready to start but thought I would jump on here and see if anyone else has done or thinking of doing this, to bounce some ideas of.
I will not be doing the bulk of the work but a friend who has already done a 2JZ transplant in a FWD Toyota Corrola will be so he knows the drill fairly well.
Anyways - any thoughts or ideas?

no-one considered this or done it yet?
thought maybe someone could shed some light on the process for me or at least have some suggestions

I think most people find this sort of fabrication too expensive to be worth-while, but by all means, post your progress as you go.

front engine
I have yet to choose one - i need to do some rough measurements - but with an adaptor plate - most things will work. If i can find one, I will try and use a 6 speed Supra box. Depending on whether I turbo straight away I might go auto.....

Re: (Bserious)
nope
its a DC2....its too easy to buy a car already like that.
there is no hard work or uniqueness about it.
They are too expensive anyways - and even worse to modify!
To be honest I am surprised no-one has done it yet......

Re: (f@sth@tch89)
i have seen both those topics - not sure what they have to do with my build though.
Man you guys have a nack of trying to knock down anyone trying something different.
I won't be doing the fab - its not my area of expertise - but I'll be doing as much of everything else as I can...
I have it all priced up - all materials - all labour and have even added heaps to allow for all the hidden issues and it still all falls under 12KUS...
I'll be sure to post pictures so you doubters and keep an eye on whats going on

Re: (EVLTEK)
I'm hoping to get my prelude done for around that much as well. The engine I'm using is probably a bunch cheaper than a k-series though. :-P If you post some tech, or research, or show that you've done some real hard work on this project, you're much less likely to be flamed. Do you have a shell yet? Who's doing your fab? Suspension geometry? body modifications? electrical system? Or are you planning on just handing a bunch of parts to a fabricator and asking them to stick them all together? keep making progress.

Re: (Niles)
yeap
I am buy no means a fabricator so leaving that up to a guy who builds drag cars over here in New Zealand.
He transformed a FWD toyota corona (4 door sedan) into a 2JZ 8 sec RWD monster so sure he can sus out a fairly good setup with my car
I am buying a shell this weekend if things go to plan.
U am using the entire subframe for a nissan Silvia so will be factory suspension gemotry from that car but will get some custom adjustable arms made for the normal camber and toe adjustment....
I know what parts I need as far as ECU/loom/motor/turbo blah blah so just a matter of collecting parts and off we go.
I only posted up here initially to see if anyone else had attempted this same thing or something north south to see what problems they encountered so I could factor them in to the budget etc...
But seeing as no-one anywhere has done it - then we'll be going in blind

Re: (EVLTEK)
Sounds good, keep us updated. One things for sure, if you like doing the work yourself, there's alot of it, and its fun. I'd love to see the corona. There are so many cars that I think about playing with to make into fun cars to drive around or race. What are inspections and emissions regulations like all the way on the other side of the planet?

F20C stuff is just too dare over here!!
I can get complete K24 motors for only 500US!!!
Niles - will see if I can find some pics of the corona for you.. We have no emissions laws at all over here so aint no probs. Will have to get the chasis mods and other things certified that they are safe for the road.
ON a side point the guys names buildng my car is also Nyle (with a y)

Re: (f@sth@tch89)
Good luck on your project. There use to be a rear wheel drive integra at some drift events in miami. That was a while ago. This might be the same car I found here though. http://www.drifting.com/forums...pp=15
Keep us updated on your progress.

Why mess with adapter plates and stuff like that? If I were you, and I wanted a RWD DC2, I'd buy the S2K drivetrain(i.e. motor, trans) and use a Nissan rear end. A complete S2000 swap can be had for $3500.

Re: K20 RWD (EVLTEK)
We were well on our way to building a RWD 84 Prelude about 12 years ago. Just to be different, we used an H23 engine (from a 93 Prelude), and we were putting a Porsche 914 transaxle in the rear for tranny (a la Porsche 944) for better weight distribution.
Unfortunately, the guy who we were building for got impatient (we'd been at it for a little over a year), and started spending his money on a low rider GM pickup, and scrapped the project when it was about 75% done.
All the parts were sold, and the caged/tube framed chassis went to the wreckers (after sitting in my yard for about 8 months).

he can use a r160, r180, or r200 subaru or nissan rear end. r160 should be good enough to handle the s2k motor.
