Just curious...how much for a B20 engine?

Re: Just curious...how much for a B20 engine? (Mistah_JDM)
This is what I saw when I was pricing B20 engines awhile back.
Engine dealers online $800-$1000 plus shipping costs
Local salvage yards in Midwest area $1000-$1500 (what a rip)
Installed costs? I have no idea, I do my own installations.

I bought my B20B for $500 off a friend and places usually charge up to $600 for installation. This was just for the long block, but you should be able to find a complete B20 swap w/ LS tranny for $800-$1000.

Re: Just curious...how much for a B20 engine? (d357r0y)
and what are the specs on the B20? Are we talking about the CR-VTEC engine that everyone is using these days, or the old Prelude engine that is a POS? I'm thinking we're not talking about the CR-VTEC, because that is pretty damn inexpensive...
I'm confused

When you say B20, you're talking about a B20B or B20Z out of a CRV. - in stock form.
If it had a vtec head they'd be calling it a b20vtec or crvtec.

Re: Just curious...how much for a B20 engine? (JeffS)
1.) What are the specs on a stock B20b and a B20Z?
2.) Is one of those 160hp and 162ft/lbs torque?
3.) If so why is it so cheap?
4.) How much to get a vtec head on it?
5.) Would I use an LS tranny?
Thanx for any help.

Dude, put alittle time towards research on B20 info. I mean it will stay in your head better if you actually look for it instead of someone on H-T just giving it to you. It is kinda like someone drinking for free.....the first few beers are ok but after too many it is pretty dang annoying. No hard feelings though.
here are two beers, you can buy the next keg
1.) What are the specs on a stock B20b and a B20Z?
As always look at http://www.crvtec.com that info is on there believe it or not
2.) Is one of those 160hp and 162ft/lbs torque?
No neither of those is a 160hp/162ft-lb engine
3.) If so why is it so cheap?
They are not, so I guess it is not so cheap.
4.) How much to get a vtec head on it?
Depends if you do it correctly, it is not just as simple as slapping on the Vtec head.
5.) Would I use an LS tranny?
You can but others like to use different transmissions. Again look on http://www.crvtec.com and see what H-T users that have CRVtecs are running. Research.
Thanx for any help.
Your welcome

Re: Just curious...how much for a B20 engine? (SLPR)
Ok, I've done a bit of research on http://www.crvtec.com and I think I know what's up now.
Now if I understand correctly, I can get everything I need for a b20z swap (including tranny) for like 1000 bucks, but I HAVE to change the head because the stock b20z head won't fit under the hood? I'd want a b17a head right?
Any estimates for the 1/4 mile time of an EK coupe with a b20z block and b17a head with LS tranny?
Gosh I hope I'm not still wrong about all this. If so, please be gentle...I'm trying

I've got my notes for this basic swap in a word file.. here's the copy and paste for anyone interested including kurtman...did this from R E S E A R C H. Still gathering parts for it. This is for a swap into a 96 hatch.
btw, anyone who's looking and knows about this swap, correct me if I'm wrong on any of the information...
Parts List for B20 swap into EK
Engine: B20Z or JDM B20b 146 hp (long block, distributor, alternator, starter, intake manifold, fuel rail, injectors, harness, plugs, throttle body, sensors)
Fuel rail LS or B20 minus center stud on LS manifold
A/C Bracket 96 del Sol AC bracket: 38930-P54-000 $94.82 (Del Sol VTEC/99+ US Civic Si) A/C mounting bracket - Reuse the civic stud and rubber mount or use CRV A/C Bracket.
Intake Manifold 96-98 LS or Skunk2 ITR
Intake Tube LS or (JDMfan.com homemade)
Throttle Cable 99-00 Si $9.00
ECU: 96-98 Integra LS (P75)
Mounts and Brackets:
Rear Upper Tranny mount 9-00 Si: 56827-S04-N10 $28.86. Use the stock civic rubber mount.
Driver side mount bracket 99-00 Si: 11910-P30-000 $40.12. This piece bolts to the block below the cam gears. Reuse the civic studs. Also, use all other civic parts at this location.
Front tranny bracket DC Integra piece on the tranny but civic stud and rubber mount. Integra stud and rubber looks the same but won't work.
Upper tranny mount Civic
Transmission: 94+ GSR (S80)
Intermediate Shaft 94+ DC
Axles 94+ DC, EG Del sol VTEC, or 99+ US Civic Si
Clutch Kit B-series
Flywheel B-series (Type R preferred)
Shift linkage DC, EG Del Sol VTEC, or 99+ US Civic Si
Exhaust System:
Manifold B series (Type R OEM)
Cat High Flow Catalytic Converter $70
Sensors/Electrical:
CKF Sensor DX harness has 3 wires; CKF sensor on B20 uses two
Take plug from B harness and attach to D harness, match the two same colored wires and cap off the other (not used, ground) Black/Brown
Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) DX harness has three wires; B20 plug/sensor uses two. Match the two same colored wires and cap off the other black/brown wire. On the ECU Side move A14 (blue/black) to A12.
Intake Air Temp (IAT) Sensor Civics DX has this sensor in the intake itself, not on the manifold. If you keep the one in the intake, then you don’t need to plug anything into the LS manifold IAT sensor. The IAT needs to be extended if you use the sensor on the B motor. I used the EX harness and a Si intake tube so I just used the sensor that was for the D motor. No need to extend.
EVAP purge solenoid valve Plug is different so just splice from one harness to the other, zip tie or mount to firewall.
MAP Sensor Extend to fit
TPS Sensor Extend to fit
Distributor B20 plug, match wires.
Primary O2 Sensor: Extend to fit
Secondary O2 Sensor Extend and plug in behind cat. The plug goes through the floorboard behind the cup holder. If you have an EX and are performing the swap, then all you need to do is plug the O2 to the plug behind the cup holder. If you have the CX or DX then look at the O2 plug from the pin side and then look at this diagram below and wire to the ECU.
For the 96-98 OBDII ECU: Viewed from the pin side on the male plug:
1 Green goes to D13 (green/ black) for sensor ground
2 White goes to D14 (white/ red) for sensor signal
3 Black/white goes to A5 (black/white) for heater signal
4 Black/yellow needs to tap into A11 (yellow/ black) for 12v

See how your are inexperienced, if you are going to do this b20vtec swap, don't do it yourself. Doing a frankenstein motor by yourself is not a cake walk. If your going to do it yourself, just get a already DOHC vtec motor like the b16. It won't be as strong as a frankmotor, but if will be easier to put in, and it should be realiable.
