jdm b18c5 into 97 ex
i just called the guy to order my motor and hes telling me on a jdm motor i have to change out the oil pump and chenge some other things for it to work in my 97 ex. now how hard is it really to put this motor into my car, im pretty good with repairs ive been working on these things for prlly 6 years but never did a swap. i guess my real questions are if i order a jdm typer swap its bolt in right, and what wiring modifications do i need to do, also let me know of any other things that might help me out. ohh iand i don't need to pass emissions thanks -travis

He's telling you that because he's probably on the idea that you would use a US OBD2 ecu to power the motor. WHen you use a US OBD2 ecu it looks for the CKF sensor which is integrated on the oil pump on all US OBD2 engines. There's a small wiring trick/fix for this specific sensor so you don't have to worry about changing hte oil pump if you do indeed use a US OBD2 ecu.
you can read about on my tech site here:
http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/ckftrick.htm
If you use the JDM ECU that should come with that motor, you don't need to worry about the CKF trick. JDM ECU's don't look for a 2nd 02 nor CKF sensor.
If and when you get this JDM ITR engine and if it comes with everything (mounts, shift linkage, axles, ecu, wire harness) here's what you use from the engine and what you'll reuse from your EX:
From the ITR engine:
- use the complete axles
- use the shift linkage
- use the ecu (should plug n' play)
- use the A/C bracket & FRONT tranny bracket
From your EX:
- reuse your engine wire harness on the ITR engine...don't worry, its compatible. You may need to extend a few sensor wires such as the IAT or reuse your existing EX's IAT sensor.
- TOP tranny mount and driver side bridge mount & bracket
You'll need to buy or get your hands on these parts:
- 99-00 Si coupe rear engine bracket
the ITR rear bracket is offset a little differently for EK use.
- Driver side dual-post mount (block side)
ITR engines comes with a 3-post mount which isn't compatible with EK chassis's.
that should be it for geting the motor installed.

NP..
oh yeah ****...forgot about the 98+ ITR's having a 36mm outter joints :hammer head:
but damn, hope that didn't turn you away from buying a JDM 98 spec ITR engine! they have a better header and a 4.7fd!

Re: jdm b18c5 into 97 ex (rising_son97)
think these should be my last questions... do i need to put a new fuel pump or a fpr in when i do the swap, also will my short shifter fit the integra linkage? thanks -travis

Re: jdm b18c5 into 97 ex (rising_son97)
No, you don't need to change the fuel pump. The civic pump is the same one they use in the integras...
Your swap may come with the chrome Type R shifter (mine did). Your short shifter will fit the swaps linkage, but the Integra shifter is already much better than the Civic one. I would say that if it comes with it, try the integra one first & see if you like it (or just sell it)...
