JDM B18C Type R into 92 Cx - pro's correct me
Ok, first off im getting a 98+ JDM B18C type r swap into my 92 CX. i am going to be running a chipped p28.
Will i be able to use the type R engine harness and that will bolt right up to my STOCK cabin harness?
If the harness is cut, can i use a 92-95 EX/Si engine harness?
Since i will be running the p28, i am turning it into a OBDI, will i need the OBDII to OBDI conversion harness? i dont think i do... just correct me.
thanks in advance. really wanna know this stuff so i can get the motor in smoothly and i had always had the notion that JDM motors were harder to install.

The engine harness that will come with your swap will be for a right hand drive integra,
however, you can still use it. You can get it to reach, by stretching the wiring harness.
You can also use a 92-95 ex/si harness, but you will need to splice the obd2 connectors onto it(alternator, distributor, injector clips, etc). But you can just as easily use your stock cx harness and run the two wires for vtec.
You will not need a conversion harness for your p28 ecu. Your plugging a obd1 ecu into an obd1 car.
Also, your jdm itr motor does not have a vtec oil pressure sensor (which your rechipped p28 will be looking for).
You can either get a usdm vtec assembly(with the oil pressure sensor) or just take the wire that would normally go the the oil pressure sensor and tap it into the wire that goes to your vtec solenoid.
I did a '97 jdm b18c-r swap into my old '92 cx.
I used the JDM harness, stretched it, plugged it all in. At the ecu, I cut the wire going to the vtec oil pressure switch and tapped it into the wire going to the vtec solenoid, plugged in my chipped p28, and called it a day.
Good luck.

when you tapped the oil pressure wire to the vtec solenoid, are you getting a CEL when you do that?
yours was a 97, does it differ from the 98?

ok, the VTPS (vtec pressure switch) has 2 wires, a power & ground. You'll be splicing the power wire to the VTS (vtec solenoid) wire, then you'll want to ground the ground wire to the head somwhere. You won't get a check engine light doing this trick.
JDM 97 ITR engines, electronically do NOT differ than JDM 98 ITR engines. They both use the same ecu, distributor, injectors, etc. Also, Honda of Japan didn't change over to OBD2b when 99-01 Type-R integra's came about -- all are OBD2a spec engines. Only the 99+ CTR's changed over to OBD2b spec.
as far as your wiring goes, all of what Slopoke is pretty much the jist of things, he forgot to mention that if you reuse your CX harness you'll have to add 3 more wires for the 02 sensor (CX's use a single wire 02, your ITR engine uses a 4-wire 02 sensor). But you also have another option:
Find yourself a US 96-01 OBD2 integra engine harness (a type-R or GSR harness would be the best to use since the VTEC & knock sensor wiring is already integrated). This will work and is fully backwards compatible with your 92CX even tho your CX is OBD1.
Using a reprogrammed P28 is an excellent choice, as it is designed to plug 'n play directly into your 92 CX (no converter harness needed) and will fully power your ITR engine even though your engine is OBD2 electronics equipped. That's the cool thing about OBD2 electronics + US integra engine harnesses -- they're backwards compatible with OBD1 vehicles.
oh another thing if you didn't know, a perk actually, since you own specifically a 1992 civic, you don't need to wire VTEC in at all, it's already integrated in your CX's ecu plugs-out-to your engine bay. . And since you're going with a P28 ecu, you don't need to wire in the knock sensor, since a P28 is knock sensorless.
