JDM b16a2 vs USDM b18c
Well in about a month im dropping in a JDM b16a2 into my 96 civ. I know the b18c has just a little bit more torque but other then that is there any other reason why i would want to spend the extra 1k for the b18? do any of you have this setup? what do u like and dislike about it? (b16a2) im just lookin for some feedback. thnx fellas

.2 liters doesn't sound like it would make a whole lot of difference BUT it really does make a huge difference. It's the difference between running 15's on your stock B16 swap to running 14's in your stock B18C swap. I personally think it's worth the extra G.

both are very good choices, so you would have to take other factors into consideration. Do you want to be able to pass emmission legally? The USDM will be able to pass emission, however the JDM b16 may not be able to pass w/o doing some mods to the a/f. In some states you can now register a USDM motor. So you can associated a block number to a chasis. Also, what are you planning to do in the future with the motor. If you are planning to go FI then I would go with a GSR, however if you want to stick to N/A then the b16 is a fine choice.

Re: JDM b16a2 vs USDM b18c (ekb18c)
See the thing is that in PA we no longer have emissions, thats why im seriously thinking on getting the JDM b16a. I wanna eventually go FI, and i heard from a few places and also on this board that the b16 goes well with the vortech SC with the 10psi (i think) addon. and that extra 1k will be a nice chunck to put towards this. or i could use the 1k toward more engine mods to the b16 which should pu closer if not beyound the b18c. sigh choices choices....anyone else have some good feedback on their b16a2?

First of all if it's a B16A2 then it is not a JDM motor - more than likely its from a 1999-2000 Civic Si or 1997 Del Sol VTEC.
Listen man, I've had all 3 of the most popular B-Series motors - B16A2, B18C1, and the B18C5. My fiancee' has the car on the left with a B16A2 in it, and my old car is on the right - had a B18C1 in it for a year and then I "upgraded" to a 1998 Type R swap.
Get the B18C1! I'm telling you it's the best overall VALUE. In identically prepped cars my old B18C1 was a good deal quicker than my fiancee's B16A2. If you can find a good deal on a B18C5 swap then obviously that's the one to get, but you must be super patient when looking - I got a whole totalled ITR for only $4,000!
My B18C1 ran a 14.6 in my 2289lb. Si hatch on street tires (16'' crapwheels too)
My fiancee's B16A2 runs awesome, but I can't see it besting a 14.9 or maybe even a 15.0. The B18C1 was a good eal quicker on the street in all areas because of its USABLE power and torque.
Don't just read PEAK numbers - the power BAND on the B18C1 is more broad and usable than the B16A2.
My B18C1 rolled 150hp and 124lb/ft. of torque to the wheels (whp was little low)
My girl's B16A2 rolled 143hp and 102lb/ft. of torque to the wheels.
Both had same mods, but what those numbers do not tell you is that the B18C1 had a nice, think powerband that was above 140whp from 4500-up to the redline. The B16A2 was dead pretty much until 6000rpms. By that time the race is over.
Again, this is all from EXPERIENCE in the REAL world - I drove BOTH cars daily and while I love the B16A2 swap, the B18C1 is hands-down better for drag and street driving. You don't have to rev the **** out of the 1.8L just to pass like you do the B16A2.
BTW: The pics were to show some photographical proof that I really have two identical cars with different motors. Never can tell who's bullcrapping

Even the 170hp JDM B16A is not as quick as the USDM B18C1. I've got 2 or 3 friends here with JDM B16As and the B18C1 cars are still quicker with the same mods and whatnot.
