Default idleing issue with a h22a

ok, got a jdm h22a in my 98 hb. The motor drops the rpm's to 300 or so and then picks back up to 750 or so over and over. Also bougs pretty bad at low idle when gassed and back fires more then usual. I turned the distributer retarded all the way and it smooths out the idle. Any ideas whats going on?

I bet you're getting code 12 (EGR) too eh?

idle fucktuation is commmon with H22 civic/integra swaps.

Read this thread on how to remedy the idling issues:

PS-I run the p28...no EGR for me nor have I had any idleing issues.

ok, I lined all the marks up on the cam gears and camshaft and it almost looked like the intake gear was off just a tad so I turned the adjustable cam gear to where it looked right. Started it and it still idles up and down but sounds like its gonna stall each time it drops to low idle. Could 92-96 timing belts be different then 97-on? I know the part numbers different and I have a 99 belt on a 92 jdm.

Recheck your vacumn hoses for leaks or just improper install. Also check plug wires to make sure you got them on in proper order. ..

Different timing belts for H22's....wtf? I have never heard of that nor does it make sense.

well if the length is different that means the deck height, pulleys or something along the lines of that is different. I'm going to have to search this one......it's bugging me.

ok, I reinstalled the timing belt and did a compression test. All cylinders are above 200 easily. So I replaced the ditsributer cap and the idle smoothed out and it runs great now. Thanx for all the help. Anyone know what the gaps for the plugs should be?
