Default ID'ing a 00 ITR head vs. a B16a head???

I'm looking to buy an 2000 ITR head. But I want to make sure that they guy isn't selling me a B16 head. What kind of marks should I look for?

I know that the number for the ITR is P73, will this be stamped on the head anywhere? I assume it would be. Also, if it is a B16 head, would there be a P30 stamped somewhere?

Basically, I don't want to get burned in this deal. Thanks for the help guys.

Craig.

look on the distributor side of the head on top next to the valve cover, it will say p30 if its b16. just buy a head from dan.

This one says PR3 although you can't really see it. It is a 97 ITR

Considering the B16 and ITR heads are the same cast, they will have the same cast numbers.

Its pretty hard to tell one from the other, I guess you can alwasy look at the valve springs...but those can bea easily swapped over.

the only way to tell is by the green paint on the distributor mount, that is, if it
hasnt been cleaned off.

Otherwise without removing the valves and checking the seat/bowl area,
thers almost no way to tell.

here are some good pics that katman posted on hybrid.

it looks like the itr head has the p30 or 30 stamp on top of the head next to the distributor as well. so i guess i was wrong on that one.

here is the minor port behind the intake valves

uh, they look a little small. here is the link to the page. http://www.jdmhondaparts.com/4sale/itrhead/

The only way ti ID an ITR head vs a B16a head is the green stripe by the dist on the intake side. Honda does this for this very reason, to ID the head at a glance. All the stampings are identicle between the two.

Here is a pic of the stripe from C-Speed :

enjoy.....

they dont do that green strip for production itr heads. looks like only new heads from acura which dont even come ported.

Every production Type-R I've looked at HAS that greep strip. I confirmed this at the last ITR Dyno Day in Atlanta (10-15 ITRs). I set the timing on most of them......

That is wrong.
EVERY itr head comes ported. EVERY head has that green mark.
Actually, the later heads I have been getting has had the seat blending and
each port was completely smoothed and polished as well.

I believe that he was talking about the replacement heads that you can buy from the Acura Parts Dept. Basically a b16 head with ITR internals. No factory port.
