IAB not working. Help with vacuum.
I did a swap this winter and put a GSR head on a B16 block. I really would like the IAB to work since the B16 has no bottom end. I thought it was working, but someone rode in the car and said something to the effect of "are you going to hook up the secondaries?" and "with the secondaries operating, VTEC shouldn't be that loud at 4,400" ....funny, I didn't think it was that loud to begin with.
Now, I unplugged the vacuum lines (to see if it really wasn't functioning) and the car runs exactly like it did before. The wiring and vacuum lines were ran by a respected shop owned by cool guys, but honestly-its just not working. Does anyone have any useful tips to troubleshoot this problem? I didn't know it wasn't working before because- like so many people on here- I have loads of technical data but I never actually heard the IAB's open at 5,700 in person before. Lack of first hand experience was the culprit here, and its pretty embarrassing.
Is there something that has to be "just so" for it to work? Is there something that goes bad often that causes them to not work. I don't want to think the shop wired it wrong - these guys are really good, and nice guys to boot

hook it up through vacuum, directly to the intake manifold. eliminate the black box that has the IAB plug that goes to ECU and vacuum lines going in to it. It is under the intake manifold.

its that easy? That will let the IAB's activate at 5,750 like they should? Wow, if it is, thanks a million.

Try it out. It will make them work for sure.
Where they open depends on when your motor creates enough vacuum to close the IAB diaphram. It seems to open at different rpms in different set-ups. Give it a shot and see if you like it.

Im looking at my manifold, and I dont have any vacuum nipples where you have your diaphram hooked into. Mine is just bare. Did you have to modify it yourself, or did yours come that way (with the extra vacuum plug in)

That picture is not of a GS-R manifold... it looks like a Prelude manifold to me. The GS-R manifold does not have the vacuum nipple for the IAB located in the same place as the one pictured.
