It is more like a safe guard
Do you have to chip it? No but you may run lean

It may run great right now but over time you may notice fuel issues (like being too lean or what not) and thats basically because your runnin the p72 fuel maps and not the correct p13 fuel maps. Chippin the ecu will give you the correct fuel maps and will also allow for other adjustments depending on your program.

I myself have a chipped p28.

explain why gsr maps are better?

Chipped ECU bad? what? You should get the correct H22 basemap to run the motor, not a GSR map.

Because the fuel maps are for smaller injectors so you will be running lean, especially at the top end when you are in vtec where the h22 uses a lot of fuel, also you will have a huge dip in power when vtec kicks in because the gsr ecu opens its butterflies way later then the h22 does.... so vtec will kick in and your butterflies will still be closed until about 6000 rpms and you'll be starving for air...

in my opinion i would run the gsr ecu stock and add a apexi VAFC, dyno tune it to check air fuel and adjust vafc accordingly
