Default I need some help here, 1st Gen. B16A swap into a '98 EX coupe .....

A guy bought a 1st Gen. engine and cable tranny from me, and wants to put it in his '98 Civic EX coupe. Part of the "service" that I offer when selling the engine/tranny is doing research and seeing what he needs to do to install and run it.

Of course almost all of the info. I have is for '88-'91 Civic/CRX swaps (since that is what the engine is really designed for). So I am not 100% what he needs to get to run the engine successfully .......

Would he need a '99-'00 Si harness and ECU since the car is ODB-II, or can he run a Del Sol DOHC VTEC harness and ECU?? I know he'll need a cable to hydro tranny conversion (will it work - see other post), and newer mounts, but I am not sure exactly what to tell him.

I would appreciate any help you guys can offer as my searches are coming up empty ......

dude, dont do it, don't do the swap. I have a 97 coupe and i dropped a b16a2 sencond generation in it. i had to buy a convertion from obd2- obd1 harness($250)
and little stuff here and there, i spent a lot of money doing my swap coz it was an older motor. i say go for 99-00 si b16a2. peace

putting a obd 0 motor into a obd 2 car sucks ***. Too much hassle. For the price of all the parts you will need you could buy a gsr or si swap.

You will need New injectors, distr, alt, o2 sensors, and a **** load of wiring.

here is a complete 6gen swap how to:
http://www.jspectuning.com/6gen/

he'll need the tranny converter, http://www.hasport.com/M92_CC.htm , or a hydro tranny (preferred).

Stay with 96-98 harness and ecus since the 99-00 ones are different and will create more problems for you.

Thanks Trey.

I had seen that one on the Hybrid board as well. So a '96 Del Sol DOHC VTEC harness, distributor, injectors, and ECU should work for him?? Is '96 OBD-I or II???

Yes. its gonna cost about 1000$ in misc **** to get that engine running.
axles, injectors, distributor, etc etc etc i can go on.
people need to realize that its not a great deal to save 500$ now and wind up spending MORE. Oh he is also gonna need mounts.

You can reuse the 98 harness you have and run the wires for the Vtec stuff.

if you aren't comfortable doing that, get any 96-98 EX engine (one-piece) harness and it'll have the wires you need. The del Sol harness will be different since that chassis is not the same as a Civic.

96-00 Civic harness are one piece, tegs and del Sols are two piece, and cannot be used.

Good luck,

Since he already has an EX, doesn't he already have the VTEC wiring on there?

Oh, and in case you guys don't get it, I am THE SELLER of the engine/tranny, and am trying to take care of the buyer. I said in my auction listing that the majority of the people swap this into EF's, but that it could work in other cars with some extra work.

So I'm doing this as a service to someone else, because that is the kind of seller that I am ........

I can't believe you're trying to put a 1st-gen B16A into a 1998 Civic!

Just kidding. I caught what you said first off because I READ the post
